国际英语资讯:State lawmaker injured by gunmen in northern India

NEW DELHI, March 21 -- Unidentified gunmen shot and injured a lawmaker of main ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, local media reported on Thursday.

Yogesh Verma, a BJP member of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly who represents the Lakhimpur assembly constituency, was shot at while he was on his way back to his residence after celebrating the festival of colors "Holi" at his office in Patel Nagar area of the city.

According to the reports, when Verma reached near the Guru Nanak Inter College unidentified gunmen shot at him. The lawmaker was reportedly to have received gunshot injuries below his right knee.

The injured lawmaker was rushed to a neighboring hospital, where doctors attending on him said his condition was out of danger.
