BEIJING, Oct. 20 -- One year ago, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, outlined priorities and a blueprint for the two centenary goals at the landmark 19th CPC National Congress.
Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core, China is committed to high-quality development toward the goal of building a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful.
STRONG COUNTRY ASSURED BY SCIENTIFIC THEORY
During the 19th CPC National Congress, the CPC Constitution was amended to include Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a new component of the Party's guide for action.
When delivering a report to the congress, Xi urged efforts to finish building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020. He also laid out a two-stage approach for the development of the country: from 2020 to 2035, working to basically realize socialist modernization; from 2035 to the middle of the 21st century, developing China into a great modern socialist country.
In the past year, faced with complex and changeable environment both at home and abroad, China properly dealt with challenges and showed its demeanor as a big country in state governance.
Moreover, China's economy runs steadily within a reasonable range and reform in various fields are in full swing, with people's livelihood and sense of benefit, happiness and security increasingly improved.
The reform of Party and state institutions sent a strong signal that China will carry out reforms to the end.
FOCUSING ON HIGH-QUALITY DEVELOPMENT
After the 19th CPC National Congress, China placed more weight on transforming its growth model and improving its economic structure through development and reform.
After the congress, Xi made many inspection tours to learn about innovation and ecological conservation, drawing blueprints for implementing the new development concept and promoting high-quality development.
In the past year, China pursued supply-side structural reform as its main task, supported by innovation-driven and coordinated regional development, as well as opening-up on all fronts.
In the first half of the year, consumption contributed to 78.5 percent of the country's economic growth, indicating a comprehensive improvement and upgrade in economic structure.
A landscape of opening-up on all fronts is taking shape as the Belt and Road Initiative enters its fifth year, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area gets ready for development, and the first China International Import Expo will open soon.
In the past year, deepening reform in all areas has provided a set of systems and mechanisms to ensure high-quality development. Reform in state-owned enterprises has steadily advanced, and breakthroughs were made in sectors including taxation, finance and social security.
Action has always spoken louder than words. From building Hainan island into the world's largest free trade port to the development of the Yangtze River economic belt, from poverty alleviation to rural vitalization, and from reforming the supervision system to continuously cracking down on gang crimes, China's state governance plan becomes more orderly and coordinated.
CRACKING HARD NUTS
Since the Party congress, China has seen solid progress in its fights to win the "three tough battles" of controlling risk, reducing poverty and tackling pollution, ensuring the moderately prosperous society it builds earns the people's approval and stands the tests of time.
The original aspiration and the mission of the CPC to seek happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will keep inspiring and leading hundreds of millions of people to head toward the bright tomorrow.
"People's aspiration for a better life is the goal of our work," just as Xi has stated.
