(2017·长沙高三模拟)Do you like shopping? Or does the thought of wandering round the shops fill you with terror? For some of us,shopping is an enjoyable way of spending our
spare time and our money. For me,it’s something I would rather avoid.Thank goodness for the
Internet! It’s more convenient to buy CDs,electrical items, even food, from the comfort of your
sofa. But that’s not the only reason: price is an important factor. We can buy goods and services
cheaper online. But sometimes the problem is knowing what to buy. This has led to a type of
shopping called“showrooming”.
Showrooming is something I’ve done.I will go to a shop to see, touch and try out products
but then go home and buy them online at a knock-down price. I’m not alone in doing this.Research by a company called Foolproof, found 24% of people showroomed while Christmas
shopping in 2017.
Amy Cashman,Head of Technology at TNS UK,says the reasons for this new shopping
habit are that“people are lacking time, lacking money and they want security about the products
they are buying”.She explains that consumers are not only shopping online at home but they are using the Internet in store or on their smartphones to shop around.
But does this mean technology will kill shops? Certainly shops will change. They will have
to offer more competitive prices or encourage people to buy more by giving in-store discounts or
free gifts.
We mustn’t forget that buying in a shop means you can get expert advice from the sales assistant and you can get good aftercare. It’s good to speak to a real human rather than look at a faceless computer screen but at least by showrooming, you get the best of both worlds!

(2017·湘潭高三调研)When a shop is authentic and the workers are friendly,it can feel like a second home for consumers, according to a new study in the Journal of Consumer Research.“People often feel strongly attached to particular places.Such places typically include their homes, but can also include commercial places such as stores and restaurants,”wrote authors Alain Dehenedetti (Univerisité Paris Est—IRG),Harmen Oppewal(Monash University),and Zeynep Arsel (Concordia University).“How do people develop and experience place attachment when the place concerns a commercial setting, where they are just customers, and the place is owned or controlled by someone else?”
Consumers from strong emotional bonds with locations when they experience familiarity.Consumers also value authenticity and personal relationships.“It also helps if it is a place where one can feel safe and secure, protected from not only disturbing staff but also from aggressive promotional activities,”the authors wrote.“The place does not have to be a splendid flagship store.People can build attachments with quite ordinary places,as long as the place meets the above criteria(标准) of familiarity, authenticity and security.”
The authors gained these insights from interviews with a sample of French consumers who talked about their experiences with the places they most treasure:Cafés,restaurants, department stores, concert halls, and libraries. The final phase of the study focused on patrons of a particular French wine bar.
The authors also found that once consumers bond with a commercial space, they are willing to make efforts or sacrifices to support it.Satisfied customers may pay higher tips, volunteer to help the business, and serve as ambassadors, linking other consumers to the business.“Consumers treat their special place as a treasured gift and in return want to support the establishment beyond what is expected of them as customers,”the authors concluded.

(2017·长沙重点中学高三月考)Scientists,doctors and mental health professionals have been studying the connection between color and mood for years. Many now believe that colors can not only cause emotional reactions, but can also correct mood.Colors behave in three basic ways: active, passive and neutral (中和的).
Active colors are warm colors, including yellow, orange and red. These colors bring confidence.Warm colors can also bring cheerful attitudes.Yellows and golden colors work well in offices, kitchens and study areas.Reds heat up a room.Passive colors or cool colors make people calm, quiet and satisfied.Bedrooms, private areas and bathrooms are great places for blues and greens.Beige, gray and white are thought of as neutral colors. They help to put the focus on other colors or serve to tone down (使柔和) colors that might otherwise be overpowering on their own.
You can easily change the look or feel of a room by making good use of different colors.Mixing and matching colors is an excellent way to balance color and emotion, and provide a welcoming feel for guests.
To create a feeling of warmth and comfort in a room, use bright, warm colors like yellow, orange and red. These colors are good choices for rooms that appear cool due to limited sunlight.Yellow adds cheerfulness to dull rooms. You can add yellows to rooms which are not closely related to happy thoughts, such as kitchens and laundry room.In rooms where there’s plenty of sunshine, cool colors can provide a calming environment.Sage greens and sky blues are perfect for bedrooms, playrooms and activity areas.Neutral colors, such as pale gray, white and beige, send a peaceful message to your brain. It’s not a coincidence that most doctor’s offices, coffee shops and mental health centers are decorated in neutrals.
To make your wall color choices better, pick out furniture that will provide a visual contrast.Cool colors make a room seem larger than it is and warm colors make rooms feel smaller.

Does Physical Activity Lead to Higher Grades?
Now,research shows that physical activity may help students do better in their classes. The research comes as educators in some countries are reducing time for activities like physical education. They are using the time instead for academic subjects like math and reading.
Researcher Amika Singh says the studies showed a link between physical activity and scores on subjects such as math,English and reading.Based on the results of our study we can conclude that being physically active is beneficial for academic performance.
Ms.Singh offers some possible explanations. There are, first, physiological explanations, like more blood flow, and so more oxygen to the brain.Being physically active means there are more hormones produced like endorphins. And endorphins make your stress level lower and your mood improved, which means you also perform better.
Also, students involved in organized sports learn rules and how to follow them. This could improve their classroom behavior and help them keep their mind on their work.
The study leaves some questions unanswered, however.Ms.Singh says it is not possible to say whether the amount or kind of activity affected the level of academic improvement. This is because of differences among the studies.
Also, they were mostly observational studies. An observational study is where researchers do not do controlled comparisons. They only describe what they observe. So they might observe a link that students who are more active often have better grades. But that does not necessarily mean being active is the cause of those higher grades.
Still, the general finding was that physically active kids are more likely to do better in school.Ms.Singh says schools should consider that finding before they cut physical education programs.
