　　When I was fourteen，I earned money in the summer by cutting lawns(草坪)，and within a few weeks I had built up a body of customers. I got to know people by the flowers they planted that I had to remember not to cut down，by the things they lost in the grass or struck in the ground on purpose. I figured him for a thin retirement check，maybe a work­relayed injury that kept him from doing his own yard work. Sure，I kept track of the total，but I didn't worry about the amount too much. 　　Then，one late afternoon in mid­July，the hottest time of the year，I was walking by his house and he opened the door，mentioned me to come inside. The hall was cool，shaded，and it took my eyes a minute to adjust to the dim light.

　　There are two types of people in the world. Although they have equal degree of health and wealth and other comforts of life，one becomes happy and the other becomes unhappy. This arises from the different ways in which they consider things，persons，events and the resulting effects upon their minds.

If they aim at getting some advantages in social position or fortune，nobody wishes them success. Nor will anyone start a step or speak a word to favor their hopes. If they bring on themselves public objections，no one will defend or excuse them，and many will join to criticize their wrongdoings. These should change this bad habit and be pleased with what is pleasing，without worrying needlessly about themselves and others.
