It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually did. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品杂货), saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性)as a whole. And it has influenced(影响)us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
59.Why was the bike so important to the couple?
A.The man’s job was bike racing.
B.It was their only possession.

D.They used it for work and daily life.

B.people were busy before Christmas
C.the stranger brought over the bike
D.life was hard for the young family.
61.How did people get to know the couple’s problem?
A.From radio broadcasts.
B.From a newspaper.
C.From TV news.
D.From a stranger.
62.What do the couple learn from their experience?
A.Strangers are usually of little help.
B.One should take care of their bike.
C.News reports make people famous.
D.An act of kindness can mean a lot.

More than 10 years ago, it was difficult to buy a tasty pineapple. The fruits that made it to the UK were green on the outside and, more often than not, hard with an unpleasant taste within. Then in 1966, the Del Monte Gold pineapple produced in Hawaii first hit our shelves.
The new type of pineapple looked more yellowy-gold than green. It was slightly softer on the outside and had a lot of juice inside. But the most important thing about this new type of pineapple was that it was twice as sweet as the hit-and-miss pineapples we had known. In no time, the Del Monte Gold took the market by storm, rapidly becoming the world’s best-selling pineapple variety, and delivering natural levels of sweetness in the mouth, up until then only found in tinned pineapple.
In nutrition(营养) it was all good news too. This nice tasting pineapple contained four times more vitamin C than the old green variety. Nutritionists said that it was not only full of vitamins, but also good against some diseases. People were understandably eager to be able to buy this wonderful fruit. The new type of pineapple was selling fast, and the Del Monte Gold pineapple rapidly became a fixture in the shopping basket of the healthy eater.
Seeing the growing market for its winning pineapple, Del Monte tried to keep market to itself. But other fruit companies argued successfully that Del Monte turned to law for help, but failed. Those companies argued successfully that Del Monte’s attempts to keep the golden pineapple for itself were just a way to knock them out the market.
63.We learn from the text that the new type at pineapple is __________.
A.green outside and sweet inside
B.good-looking outside and soft inside
C.yellowy-gold outside and hard inside
D.a little soft outside and sweet inside
64.Why was the new type of pineapple selling well?
A.It was rich in nutrition and tasted nice.
B.It was less sweet and good for health.
C.It was developed by Del Monte.
D.It was used as medicine.
65.The underlined word “fixture” in Paragraph 3 probably refers to something _________.
A.that people enjoy eating
B.that is always present
C.that is difficult to get
D.that people use as a gift
66.We learn from the last paragraph that Del Monte _________.
