Maja Kazaic looked closely down into the aquarium(水族馆).For two years, she’d been watching the injured
dolphin named Winter swim around the tank. From a distance, the dolphin seemed approachable enough.Still,as
Kazazic prepared to j ump into the water,a little panic
gradually came into her excitement.
The young woman eased herself into the pool.Despite
her fear, she felt strong wearing her new leg.She was ready
to make good on a promise from long ago.
In second grade in Mostar,Yugoslavia,Kazazic’s five- year-old cousin,Jasmina, died of leukemia(白血病).Kazazic
swore that she would honor the little girl by swimming with a dolphin,an animal they both adored.“Jasmina never got the
chance to do it,”says Kazazic,32,“so I decided that someday
I’d do it for her.”
In 1993,during the Bosnian civil war,16-year-old
Kazazic was badly injured. Her left leg was cut off just below
the knee and was brought to the United States for treatment.A few months later,Kazazic received her first artificial leg.Because her right leg was also damaged, walking was still
very painful.Nonetheless, she managed to graduate from a
local high school.
After receiving a BA in psychology, she moved to
Florida’s Gulf Coast. She liked watching the dolphins play at
the aquarium.A young dolphin,Winter, who had lost her tail
in a crab trap,caught Kazazic’s eye:“She swam more like a
shrimp(虾)than a dolphin.” After one doctor’s visit,trainers fit Winter with a high—tech tail.When it was done,Winter swam away fast.Kazazic
was impressed. She approached the trainers, who put her in
touch with the inventors.Within ten days, she had a new leg
and she could walk without pain again.
Eight months 1ater,Kazazic was ready to keep the
promise she had made in honor of Jasmina.“After being in a
war zone, this should be a piece of cake,”Kazazic said as she
lowered herself into the tank. She held out a hand to Winter who approached cautiously, and then moved away. After a
few minutes, the dolphin let Kazazic move her hand gently
over her back. The two started an hour—long swim around the
pool.When Kazazic climbed out,her parents hugged her.She
would have shouted with joy had she not been aware of
dolphins’sensitivity to noise.Instead she quietly said,“I felt I owed somebody something,and now I’ve paid my debt.”Out
in the parking lot,she got into her car and shouted loudly and
happily all the way.
Which is the correct order of the following events?

It is easy to lose patience with science today. The questions are pressing: How dangerous is air pollution? What about low-level radiation? When will that horrible earthquake strike California? And why can't we predict weather better? But the evidence is often described as "uncertain", forcing scientists to base their points of view almost as much on intuition(直觉)as on science.
When historians and philosophers of science listen to these questions, some conclude that science may not be able to solve all these problems any time soon. The unknowns can grow into riddles that are impossible to solve. Because of the unstable and changing state of the earth's atmosphere, for example, scientists have struggled for centuries to predict the weather with precision(精确) but failed.
The case is different for scientists of astronomy. For example, they think that the gravitational force of a nearby space vehicle, though tiny, is able to change the path of a much larger planet if the vehicle spends enough time close to it. With the aid of Newton's laws of gravitational attraction, ground controllers can predict the path of a planetary probe (探测仪)-or satellite-with incredible accuracy. They do this by calculating the gravitational force from each of the passing planets until the probe speeds beyond the edge of the solar system.A much more difficult task is to calculate what happens when two or three times of such force pull on the probe at the same time. Such procedures can, of course, be very difficult, but for experiments, they are effective.
This range of questions-from simple problems to those impossibly complex-has resulted in nicknames for various fields of study: "soft" sciences and
" hard "
sciences.“Soft” sciences admit a great degree of uncertainty. Academicians tend to judge fields such as sociology, psychology, and political science as “soft” because they are assumed to be understandable, of unnecessary mathematical accuracy, and concerned with everyday affairs such as interpersonal relationships. However, "hard" sciences, such as astronomy and chemistry, are said to offer precise answers. Precise definitions for "hard" sciences vary, but the characteristics of "hard" sciences include: producing testable predictions; performing controlled experiments; relying on quantifiable data and mathematical models; a high degree of accuracy and objectivity; and generally applying a pure form of the scientific method
We can learn from the passage that
.
A.a large planet is able to change the size of a tiny planet
B.ground controllers can affect the gravitational force of planets
C.calculating the probe speeds beyond the solar system is possible
D.predicting the weather is more difficult than predicting the path of a satellite
According to the author, "soft" sciences
.
A.allow for certain inaccuracy
B.focus on personal relationships
C.are based on controlled experiments
D.are rooted in data and mathematical models
What might be the best title for the passage?
A. Science, a Long History?
C. Science, Accurate or Not?
B. Science and Its Functions
D. Science and Its Application
What is the author's attitude towards science in this passage?
A. Objective. B. Sceptical. C. Disapproval.
D. Optimistic

Britain’s private schools are one of its most successful exports. The children of the well-off flock to them, whether from China,Nigeria or Russia :the number of foreign pupils rose by 1.4%in the last year alone.
Yet foreign students, whether educated in British private schools or elsewhere, are decreasingly likely to go to English universities.According to the Higher Education Funding Council for England,307,200 overseas students began their studies in the country in 2017-13,down from 312,000 two years earlier and the first drop in 29 years.Student numbers from the rest of the European Union(EU)fell—probably a result of the increase in annual tuition fees in England from £6,000($10,000)a year to £9,000.But arrivals from India and Pakistan declined most sharply.
In contrast to the visa system for private schools, which is extremely loose(the Home Office counts private schools as favoured sponsors),student visas have been tightened.Foreign students used to be allowed to work for up to two years after graduating. They now have only four months to find a job paying up to £20,600 if they want to stay in Britain.
This change was intended to deal with fake colleges offering two-year work visas. But it seems to have put off serious students too.Nick Hillman of the Higher Education Policy Institute says the government has sent unclear messages about the sort of immigration it wants to restrict.Australia and America, which have more relaxed entry criteria for students, are becoming more favoured destinations.
Britain’s student-visa system bas become more onerous(繁琐) overall. As a result,Britain is losing out to other countries in the contest for talent. Its unwelcoming attitude will harm its long-term development. And the drift of foreign students from leading British private schools to American colleges may have another, somewhat happier, consequence:America might become rather better at cricket(板球).
What causes the foreign student numbers to English universities to drop?
A.Poor quality of higher education.
B.The sharp increase of tuition fees.
C.The poor economic situation in EU.
D.Higher living cost in England.
What’s the aim of UK tightening its student visas?[]
A.To control the student number from India and Pakistan.
B.To increase the financial income of UK.
C.To send clear messages about the sort of immigration.
D.To deal with fake colleges that offer‘two-year work visas.
Why is it easy to get the visa from private schools in Britain?
A.Because private schools have bad quality of education.
B.Because graduates from private schools can earn£20,600.
C.Because private schools turn in more money to the Home Office.[]
D.Because their students can work for two years after graduating.
According to the passage,Britain________.
A.is famous for playing cricket
B.will get more talents in the future
C.will simplify its student-visa system
D.will help US colleges to develop cricket

How to Teach Kids to Respect Others
When learning how to teach kids to respect others, you must know how to respect others yourself. ___________You must know how to, and consistently use the skill yourself for your teaching to be effective.
So, the very first and most important tool in learning how to teach kids to respect others is to respect others yourself. Always show respect to people, even people who disrespect you, and always show respect to the kids you're trying to teach. ______________There is no need to conduct your life by keeping company with people who are disrespectful to you or your family. There are plenty of people in the world. Allowing yourself to become emotional, angry or upset over the words or actions of others is unnecessary. It can be difficult to avoid, but if your goal is to teach kids to respect others, you must respect others as well.
Children learn by example. They just do. The 'do as I say, not as I do' line just doesn't fly. Children WILL automatically do what they are taught, but teaching doesn't come through words alone. _____________
Another important factor to keep in mind when you are trying to teach kids to respect others is to listen carefully to what they say. You've had children, so now it's ultimately your job to raise them into the world the best you can. ___________Do not yell. Do not roll your eyes. Do not insult, and never, ever hit. If you engage in any of this type of behavior with your children, they will ultimately learn that this behavior is acceptable, no matter how many times you tell them with words that it's not ok.
Always make children feel like they are the most important thing in the world to you at any given moment. __________Nothing is more important than giving your children undivided attention when they need it. They will be off on their own before you know it and then you can have some time to yourself. Right now, make them feel like they are No.1 and they will learn so much for than just to respect others. They will learn compassion, listening skills, and how to choose friends who are good for them.
A. This is the key to teaching anyone anything.
B. Giving them a reward can help them behave well.
C. If people are disrespectful to you, simply walk away.
D. When children feel like you care, they will learn how to care as well.
E. Parents can find pleasure from turning their children into responsible adults.
F. They watch how adults around them act and they learn to act that way as well.
G. When your children speak, listen carefully.

She would have shouted with joy had she not been aware of dolphins’sensitivity to noise.
26.D细节题,“Tomorrow”信息中的第一句“Showers in the morning with isolated thunderstorms arriving in the afternoon.”
根据文章第三段的r example, they think that the gravitational force of a nearby space vehicle, though tiny, is able to change the path of a much larger planet if the vehicle spends enough time close to it排除A;根据文章第三段的They do this by calculating the gravitational force from each of the passing planets until the probe speeds beyond the edge of the solar system排除C;根据文章第三段的故With the aid of Newton's laws of gravitational attraction, ground controllers can predict the path of a planetary probe (探测仪)-or satellite-with incredible accuracy排除B;根据第二段的Because of the unstable and changing state of the earth's atmosphere, for example, scientists have struggled for centuries to predict the weather with precision(精确) but failed判断选D。
根据文章第四段的“Soft” sciences admit a great degree of uncertainty判断选A。
A.Objective客观的;B. 故选A。
Student numbers from the rest of the European Union(EU)fell—probably a result of the increase in annual tuition fees in England from £6,000($10,000)a year to £9,000.
This change was intended to deal with fake colleges offering two-year work visas.
34. C,细节题,根据第三段中的括号内部分:(the Home Office counts private schools as favoured sponsors)
And the drift of foreign students from leading British private schools to American colleges may have another, somewhat happier, consequence:America might become rather better at cricket(板球).
3.A
37.C
38.F
39.G
40.D
4.A解析一:根据up and down判断应该是“他开始跳”。
由于横线后说as high as he could,说明是尽可能的高,自然选择A选项。
out of reach“够不着”。
Look up是向上看,look down是向下看,look forward是向前看,都没有look forward更符合句意。
解析二:前文说他觉得生气,失望,thinking about how hungry he had become from his efforts,想起自己因为之前的种种努力已经很饿了。
There is something more I can do是惯用法。

6.is celebrated [情人节是“被庆祝”的,再结合全文的时态可知,此处应用一般现在时的被动语态。]
6.for [此处是“it is +adj.+for sb.to do”句型。
7.in [play one’s part in...

Recently the students of our school had a discussion about whether the listening test in NMET should be replaced by listening part of PETS2.
Some students think it good because the listening materials in PETS2 are close to our daily life. Besides, students can share equal opportunities as they can take the test twice a year. They say the new policy will help strengthen the students’ listening and speaking and therefore improve their abilities in using English.
However, others argue that the new listening test is too difficult for most students. They even say it is a waste of time and energy for students to take the test twice a year because they have so many subjects to study. They strongly believe that only a few students have the opportunities to communicate with foreigners in English in future and suggest that listening test should be cancelled.
