In the United States of America, the legal voting age is 18.Though some Americans have expressed interest in raising the voting age, saying that these important decisions should not be left in the hands of a teenager,I disagree.I believe that those who are 18 years old are ready to take on the responsibility for voting.

We all know that in the United States,18 is the age when an individual is considered an adult by the government.Being an adult in the eyes of the law is quite different than simply being a juvenile.Punishments for illegal activities become much heavier.Additionally,at 18,an individual can join the army without receiving permission from his parents to do so.So,when a citizen turns 18,the politics of the country start affecting him in a completely different way.It is unfair to let one lead a severer lifestyle and not allow him any choice in the matter.

Furthermore,by allowing a teenager to vote,we are helping to ensure that he will become more politically minded at a younger age.I didn’t care at all about the politics of my country when I couldn’t vote.As I couldn’t do anything about the politics at the time,I couldn’t see why I should care.It wasn’t until I turned 18 years of age that I started actively trying to understand who ran my government and the way in which it was governed.By allowing 18-year-olds to vote,we are getting them engaged in the world of politics much sooner.

In addition, teenagers today are much smarter than we think.Today’s society is much more technologically advanced than it was in the past.Teenagers have access to all kinds of information through the Internet and their smartphones. So,teenagers have enough knowledge to make good decisions.

Therefore,I think 18 is indeed a proper age to make important political decisions and those who are 18 should be allowed to make important decisions that will affect their nation.

  A.are quick-minded

  B.are well-informed

C.can use modern technologies on their own

D.can act according to changing circumstances

  Ⅱ.七选五

  The science of optimism

Optimism is a research-proven mind-set that will get you what you want. Here’s how to use it.

You failed a test.1. Your mom won’t get off your case about your report card. You feel very upset, and no one can help you.

But hold up!A positive mind-set matters. It’s a choice you can make at any time, which research has proven can increase your chances of staying healthy, overcoming challenges, and achieving your goals.2.

Optimism simply gives you power. It motivates you to take care of yourself and to work hard—the same thing pessimism takes away.“When we think that something is possible,we are more likely to work toward it,”says Tali Sharot,a scientist.“An optimistic mind-set changes what you do every day.3. ”

The good news? You can learn to become an optimist, even if you aren’t already one naturally.4. Because the secret to success is being certain the sun will shine—but also carrying an umbrella, just in case.

Scientists say that being overly hopeful or extremely cynical(愤世嫉俗的) may hold you back. There’s a sweet spot in the middle. The realistic optimists are the people who stay healthiest and happiest, and who achieve the most success. They combine the hopeful outlook of blind optimists with the clear-headed critical thinking of pessimists.5. Plan A didn’t work?On to plan B!That makes them fantastic problem-solvers.

  A.Sounds like magic,right?

B.Your best friend is mad at you.

  C.And that,in turn,changes the future.

D.They’re also flexible in their thinking.

E.You’ll feel like you are in control of your life again!

F.In fact, you can learn to see the good, without ignoring the bad.

G.Pessimists tend to expect the worst possible outcome in all situations.

根据第一项活动的名称“The Big Cake Show”及“cakes of all sizes will be on sale and on show”不难看出,这项活动主要展示并销售蛋糕,因此被邀请分享自己经验的名人应该和烹饪有关,故Paul Hollywood最有可能是一名职业厨师。

根据第三项活动中的“Buy a £5 wristband to qualify for...discounted wine”及“offering discounts to wristband wearers”可知,要想买打折的红酒,首先得花五英镑买一个手环。

根据四项活动的举办时间“March 21-22,From January 17 to March 8,The week-long...from May 18”及“begins in April...until the end of the year”可以看出,最后一项活动“The World Shakespeare Festival”持续的时间最长。

根据第三段中的“I didn’t care at all about the politics of my country when I couldn’t vote...It wasn’t until I turned 18 years of age that I started actively trying to understand who ran my government and the way in which it was governed”可以看出,作者18岁以后改变了自己对政治的态度,从漠不关心到积极参与。

根据本句后的内容,尤其是“Teenagers have access to all kinds of information”及“teenagers have enough knowledge”可知,作者说“如今的青少年比我们想象中聪明得多”是说他们消息灵通、知识广博。

通读全文可知,作者在第一段提出了自己的观点:“I believe that those who are 18 years old are ready to take on the responsibility for voting”,随后在第二、三、四段证明自己的观点,这三段的结尾“It is unfair to let one lead a severer lifestyle and not allow him any choice in the matter”,“By allowing 18-year-olds to vote,we are getting them engaged in the world of politics much sooner”和“So,teenagers have enough knowledge to make good decisions”就是作者的三个论据。

1.B B项与上文的“You failed a test”及下文的“Your mom won’t get off your case about your report card”都是不顺心的事,并与下文的“You feel very upset”构成因果关系。

3.C C项中的that 指代上文的“An optimistic mind-set changes what you do every day”。

4.F F项中的“learn to see the good, without ignoring the bad”与下文的“being certain the sun will shine — but also carrying an umbrella, just in case”相呼应。

  5.D 下文的“Plan A didn’t work? On to plan B”是对D项中的flexible in their thinking的具体阐释。

.In the picture we can see a girl refuses to help her busy mother do housework and charges at least 50 yuan for washing dishes once.Even the cat is astonished to hear what the girl said.

Many teenagers today seldom do housework, believing that their duty is to study hard and housework belongs to their parents. However,I think teenagers should set aside some time to help with housework. They can benefit a lot from doing housework.Besides developing a sense of responsibility, they can learn some important skills, like cooking and cleaning. Moreover, doing housework together with other family members can make their family close.
