Last year my summer holiday was spoiled by my bringing along a modern convenience that was too convenient for my own good: the iPad. Instead of looking at nature, I checked my e-mail. Instead of paddling a small boat, I followed my Twitter feed(推特简讯. Instead of reading great novels, I stuck to reading four newspapers each morning. I was behaving as if I were still in the office. My body was on vacation, but my head wasn’t.
So this year I made up my mind to try something different: withdrawal from the Internet. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, since I’m bad at self-control. But I was determined. I started by giving the iPad to my wife.
The cellphone signal at our house was worse than in the past, making my attempts at cheating an experience in frustration(沮丧. I was trapped, forced to go through with my plan. Largely breaking away from e-mail, Twitter and my favorite newspaper websites, I had few ways to connect to the world except for the radio—and how much radio can one listen to, really? I had to do what I had planned to do all along: read books.
This experience has had a happy ending. With determination and the strong support of my wife, I won in my vacation struggle against the Internet, realizing finally that it was I, not the iPad, that was the problem.
However, as we return to post-vacation life, a harder test begins: Can I continue when I’m back at work?
There are times when the need to know what’s being said right now is great. I have no intention of giving up my convenience completely. But I hope to resist the temptation to check my e-mail every five minutes, which leads to checking my Twitter feed and a website or two.
I think a vacation is supposed to help you rest your brain to become more productive. Here I hope this one worked.

What’s the most important factor to our well-being? Money? Happiness?
I would argue good health. In fact, I would say true happiness is hard to experience in the absence of good health.
If you’re an urban resident, your city may be working against your pursuit of good health. Modern city design has made our lives more efficient. But one important aspect has been lost: labour. We are using our bodies less and less and there are consequences to those actions. Or should I say inaction.
Health and longevity are strongly associated with fitness. I know it seems like we are overwhelmed with an obesity crisis, but most research tells us that fitness comes in all shapes and sizes. So our main problem is a lack of activity. Poor physical fitness is a risk factor comparable to high blood pressure, high cholesterol(胆固醇), diabetes(糖尿病) and even smoking.
How can city design better influence health? Urban planners need to work with health professionals. Here are a few suggestions: Walking to the store should always be an option. You shouldn’t have to be a thrill seeker to navigate city streets on a bike. Why not design parks that have equipment adults can use to exercise? By integrating movement into our everyday activities through supportive city design, we are creating an opportunity for better fitness. A low level of fitness will do more than hurt your own health. Parents’ levels of fitness can also influence their children’s health. If you are a couch potato, you may gift your children with couch potato genes.
At least some of the answers lie in city designs that push us in a new direction. This won’t happen overnight. This is what writer Carl Honoré would call a slow fix. It’s hard to change habits so we need to have a long-term plan. We are creating a generation that will die younger than their parents. It is time to turn back the clock.
28. In the writer’ opinion, an overweight person______.
A. can be healthy

D. To suggest parents are responsible for children’s fitness.
30. According to the writer, a better city design should ______.
A. let citizens to involve in the city design
B. be made by urban planners
C. create chances for people to work out
D. take people’s habits into consideration
31.What can be the best title of the passage?
A. The Improvement of Modern City Design.
B. The Ways to Improve City Design.
C. The Relationship Between City Design and Health.
D. The Physical Fitness City Design Brings to People.

What’s more exciting than having a fresh hot pizza delivered to your door? How about having it brought to you by a robot? Thanks to Domino’s Robotic Unit or DRU, that just became a reality! On March 8, the three-feet tall robot delivered its first pizza to some lucky residents in Brisbane, Australia.
The fully autonomous DRU is the result of a cooperation between Domino’s Pizza Australia and Marathon Robotics. The 450-pound machine that travels at a maximum speed of 12.4 miles an hour can traverse a distance of up to 12 miles and back, before requiring a battery recharge. LIDAR, a laser-based sensor technology similar to the one used in self-driving cars, enables DRU to detect and avoid obstacles, while traditional sensors, much like those used in vacuum robots ensure its path is safe as it heads to its destination.
The robot can fit up to ten pizzas and even has a separate cold area to accommodate drink orders. To access their food, customers have to enter the unique code provided to them by the company. This not only ensures that they pick up the right pizza, but also prevents the pies from getting stolen.
Scientists expect additional DRU’s to be ready for service in their various Queensland locations within the next six months. But don’t expect these super cute robots to replace humans anytime soon. According to Domino’s the DRU still needs extensive testing, which the company believes could take up to two years.
And then there is also the issue of regulations. The public use of autonomous vehicles is still banned in most countries. But Don Meij, the CEO and Managing Director of Domino’s Pizza Australia New Zealand Ltd, is not worried. He is "confident that one day DRU will become an integral part of the Domino’s family."
32. What does the underlined word "traverse"in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Measure.
B. Cover.
C. Watch.
D. Keep.
33. What is used to prevent the pies from being wrongly taken?
A. A strong lock.
B. Fingerprint technique. C. Special code.

B. is banned in Australia
C. is being used worldwide
D. still needs some improvement
35. What is the passage mainly about?

英语知识运用(共两节, 满分45分)
第二节 英语知识运用(共10小题每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当的内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式。
If you’re a senior citizen, music in the background may be distracting. But for younger people—experts at multitasking—it’s
61
(apparent) no big deal. That’s according to a study in the journal Gerontologist.
103 people
62
(choose) to participate in the experiment—half between the ages of 18 and 30, the others between 60 and 75. The volunteers then took part in memorization exercises
in 63
they had to quickly match a photo of a face
64
the same face in a series of unfamiliar faces. Some
65
(participate)did the exercises in silence. Others performed the tasks while
66
(listen) to white noise or instrumental jazz, blues, classical and electronic music.
Across age groups, the consensus was that the background sound was distracting?but only older people’s performance suffered when the noise was present. For example, older folks who
67
(do) the face-matching with music playing remembered 10 percent fewer faces.
The result matches up with the theory that the elderly are less able to filter out what’s called "distracting task-irrelevant information".
In this case the distracting information might have interfered with them storing the
68
(face)image in
69
first place—much less impeding(阻碍) their ability
70
(remember) it a short while later.
