“You press the button, we do the rest.” That was George Eastman’s message to amateur (业余爱好者)photographers in 1889. His many contributions to the field of photography helped the hobby inexpensively and easily.
Photography was invented in France in the late 1 830s. When Eastman was a boy, it was still a difficult art Photographers needed great skill, much technical knowledge, expensive equipment, and strong backs. Cameras were big and heavy. Also, the photographer had to carry around chemicals and equipment to prepare wet photographic plates(胶片)and develop pictures.
Although he was only 24 years old and just an amateur photographer, in 1 878, Eastman began searching for ways to simplify the photographic process。Days, he worked in a bank where he earned$1 5 a week to help support his mother. Evenings。he experimented at home in the kitchen. Sometimes he worked very late until he was tired to undress.
Finally his efforts were rewarded. In 1 879, he invented the new plate used in cameras. The following year he 1eased the third floor of a building in New York and began commercial production and sale of these plates. From this simple beginning came the present day Eastman Kodak Company, which does a billion dollars every year and has branch offices throughout the world.
Eastman went from one success to another. In 1 888, he produced a lightweight camera, the Kodak, priced at$25. His company had a one dollar camera on the market by 1 990. His factory and lab kept growing. They became vast enterprises producing many different models of cameras, color films, and a variety of photographic supplies.

When his plane touched down at Montreal’s international airport, David Lee collected his luggage and headed for the airport parking garage, where he left his brand-new car three weeks earlier. But the car wasn’t there:Lee found a police officer, who gave him the bad news:his Audi A6 most likely had been absorbed into a vast black car market somewhere in Eastern Europe or Africa.
Lee, who flies out of Montreal because it is the closest major airport to his home, is not alone. Countless U. S. travelers use Montreal’s airport because of its convenience and lower price, which the ads says. Not surprisingly, the ads don’t mention that more than 200 cars are stolen every year from the airport’s parking lots.
Professional thieves search the airport’s parking garages for cars that are relatively free of dust and have U. S. 1icense plates梐 lack of dust means that a car was parked recently, and Americans often travel for weeks. That gives the bad guys a lot of time to do whatever they
want with the car.
What they do is take the stolen cars to Montrearl’s port, where they are put inside huge containers to be taken abroad. In about a week, the cars are on the streets in Russia or countries in Africa or Asia. Police declare that Canada’s most powerful car梩heft rings are controlled by Russian crime organizations.
e“When you have so many cars parked at your airport every year,’’ says Montreal’s director of airport protection, 搃ts’s not a major problem.’’ But the Montreal airport’s car-theft problem —police recorded 220 stolen cars last year, is much worse than other international airports in North America:Last year;for example, only 65 cars were stolen at Los Angeles’s airport;Boston’s Logan airport had only 4 reported thefts. So now David Lee will head to Logan, his next closest major airport. It’s a longer drive, but that’s OK if it saves his new car.

Everyone can and should pay attention to details(细节), especially in a tight job market. Bob Crossley, a human—resources expert notices this in the job applications that come cross his desk every day. “Resumes(简历)arrive with dirts. Some job applicants don’t bother to spell the company’s name correctly. Once I see this, I don’t want the people, 擟rossley concludes, 揑f they cannot take notice of these details, why should we trust them with a job?es’’
Do we need to pay too much attention to details? Perfectionists struggle over little things at the cost of something larger. ’’To keep from losing the forest for the trees, we must constantly ask ourselves whether the details we’re working on are important or not. If they aren’t, we should drop them and move to something else. 攕ays Charles Garfield, preofessor at the University of California.
Garfield compares this process to his wok as a computer scientist at NASA. “The Apollo II moon launch was slightly off-course(偏离航线)most of the time, but a successful landing was still likely, because we knew our goal exactly. This allowed us to make adjustments as necessary. 攕ays Garfield. Knowing where we want to go helps us judge the importance of every task that we undertake.
Too often we believe that othere’s success is some special secret or a 1ucky opportunity, But success is not so mysterious Again and again. we see that, by doing little things well and keeping the goal in mind large rewards follow.

Just outside the northern Italian town of Bra, there rises a church tower with a clock that is a half hour slow Though not far from the industrial city of Turin, Bra smells of roses, and leisure(悠闲)is the law. It is both the home of an international movement that promotes slow food and one of Italian cities that have joined the slow cities In Bra, population 27.866. the town fathers have declared that all small food shops be closed every Thursday and Sunday. They forbid cars in the town square. All fruits and vegetables served in local schools must be organic(有机的). And as the movement goes well. the slow concept gradually spreads acrossEurope.
The argument for a Slow Europe is not only that it is good, but also that it can work. The Slow City Movement, which started in 1999, has improved local economies(经济) by promoting local goods and tourism. Young Italians are moving from larger cities to Bra, where unemployment is only 5 percent, about half the nationwide rate. Slow food and wine festivals draw thousands of tourists every year. Shops are doing well, many with sales rising at a rate of 15% per year. “This is our answer to the world,” says Paolo Saturnini, the founder of Slow Cities.
France is in favor of slow economics. Most outsiders have long been doubtful of the French model:short hours and long vacations. Yet the French are more productive than those in the United States and Britain, and have been for years.

When we think about happiness, we usually think of something extraordinary, a top of great delight.
For a child, happiness has a magic quality. I remember playing police and robbers in the woods, getting a speaking part in the school play. Of course, kids also experience lows, but their delight at such tops of pleasure as wining a race or getting a new bike is easily seen.
For teenagers, or people under 20, the concept of happiness changes. Suddenly it’s conditional on such things as excitement, love, and popularity. I can still feel the pain of not being invited to a party that almost everyone else was going to. I also recall the great happiness of being invited at another event to dance with a very handsome young man.
In adulthood the things that bring great joy—birth, love, marriage, also bring responsibility and the risk of loss. Love may not last;loved ones die. For adults, happiness is complex.
My dictionary explains “happy” as “lucky” or“fortunate”. but I think a better explanation of happiness is“the ability to enjoy something”. The more we can enjoy what we have, the happier we are. It’s easy for us not to notice the pleasure we get from loving and being loved, the company of friends, the freedom to love where we please, even good health. Nowadays,
with so many choices and much pressure, we have turned happiness into one more thing we have. We think we own the right to have it, which makes us extremely unhappy. So we try hard to get it and consider it to be the same as wealth and success, without noticing that the people who have those things aren’t necessarily happier.
While happiness may be more complex for us, the answer is the same as ever. Happiness isn’t about what happens to us. It’s the ability to find a positive for every negative, and view a difficulty as a challenge. Don’t be sad for what we don’t have, but enjoy what we do possess.
71.According to the passage, happiness lies in the ability to
.
A.think of something extraordinary
B.experience delight at an old age
C.feel the magic quality of pleasure
D.enjoy what one has at the moment
72.In passage 3, a teenager looks at happiness mainly in terms of
.
A.material gains
B.social honor
C.spiritual satisfaction
D.academic achievements
73.As is suggested in the passage, failure to feel happy often results from
.
A.1ack of company of close friends
B.1ack of freedom to love and be loved
C.ignoring what we do have
D.ignoring the choices one is given in life
74.The author implies that when one dreams wealth and finally gets it he
.
A.can realize what happiness is
B.may not end up with happiness
C.may consider it extreme happiness
D.should not feel content with himself
75.The passage aims to tell
.

B.the great importance of happiness

(1)情景作文
One possible version:
Reading is an effective method for us to gain knowledge. But how should we read? Should we read selectively or extensively? Students take different views on this question.
Some of them are in favor of the idea that we should read selectively. Firstly, with the development of society, knowledge in various fields is updated more and more quickly, so it is impossible for us to read all the books. In addition, selective reading is much more. efficient because of the limited time. Furthermore, there are many books that are filled with nonsense, which may do great harm to us.
However, others hold the opposite opinion. They argue that the development of society needs the people with many kinds of knowledge. They believe that the more kinds of books we read, the more opportunities we may have to achieve Success. So reading extensively is better.
Personally, although both opinions are reasonable, a combination of selective and extensive readings is the right way we are supposed to follow.

One possible version:
In the picture, I can see a car which has lost a back wheel. While, the driver concentrates all his attention upon the front wheels of the car, ignoring the missing wheel. If he drives like this, how can he reach the final destination?
From the picture, we can draw a conclusion, that success is decided by multiple aspects, some of which may result. in failure without them. In other words, if you only pay attention to certain of aspects while you ignore others, you will receive unacceptable result in the end, no matter how many special efforts you have made.
