  A

  The Minions

These yellow creatures become a big hit for their cuteness of loving bananas, nonsense words and silly movements. When you watched Despicable Me (2010), did you predict the Minions would later become the main attraction? From background characters and then main characters, their success proves good animated creations can take on a life of their own spin-offs(续集)

  The penguins

The penguins were originally just sidekicks in Madagascar(2005). But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series, and in 2017 starred in the film Penguins of Madagascar. The penguins’ wit, sarcasm and crafty composure not only adds attraction to the kid-friendly franchise, but also serves adult audiences well. So it's not surprising that they got their own movie.

  Scrat

A small and furry squirrel with a long tail from animated movie Ice Age(2002), Scrat has won people’s hearts with its persistence in acorns. It is a big part of its(Ice Age’s) enduring appeal. He demands a lot of nuts, but he is a superstar, and he does his own stunts. Scrat now has his own animated shorts, extended scenes and mini-movies.

  Puss in Boots

Originally a fairy tale written by French author Charles Perraut, Puss in Boots features a cat that helps his low-born master gain wealth and power through trickery. The cat later appeared in the Shrek franchise. In 2011, he had his own movie fittingly titled Puss in Boots.

  21. According to the text, an adult is more likely to enjoy the character ______.

  A. the Minions

  B. the Penguins

  C. Scrat

  D. Puss in Boots

  22. Which is close in meaning to the underlined word ‘sidekicks’ in the second part?

  A. assistants

  B. leading player

  C. standers-by

  D. minor roles

The penguins were originally just sidekicks in Madagascar(2005). But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series, and in 2017 starred in the film Penguins of Madagascar.可知the penguins在Penguins of Madagascar中是主角,第二句中的but表示转折关系,说明第一句中在2005年in Madagascar中担任的是配角。

  23. What do the four characters have in common?

  A. They have contributed most to the success of their original films.

  B. They have proved that the audience usually favor cute animals

  C. They have completely stolen the show with their own series.

  D. They have shown their shared qualities of honesty, loyalty and unselfishness.

From background characters and then main characters, their success proves good animated creations can take on a life of their own spin-offs(续集);第二部分But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series, and in 2017 starred in the film Penguins of Madagascar. It is a big part of its(Ice Age’s) enduring appeal. The cat later appeared in the Shrek franchise. In 2011, he had his own movie fittingly titled Puss in Boots.

Kids love the all-knowing Google. Your kids likely use Google to help them find everything from information for homework assignments, to funny cat videos, and everything in between. Sometimes kids can take a "wrong turn" on Google and end up in a dark part of the Internet where they shouldn't be. Thankfully, Google has some parental control features that parents can implement to at least help reduce the volume(量) of crap(废物) that ends up in search results, which can enable you to help keep your curious kids from ending up on the wrong side of the tracks.

What is Google SafeSearch? Google SafeSearch is one of the primary parental control options offered by Google to help parents police search results. SafeSearch helps to filter explicit(明确的)content out of search results. It is mainly designed to target sexually explicit material (images and videos) and not violent content.

How to Enable Google SafeSearch?1. From the "Search Settings" preferences page, place a check in the box with the label "Filter explicit results". 2. To lock this setting so that your child can't change it, click the "Lock SafeSearch" link. If you are not already logged into your Google account, you will need to do so in order to lock SafeSearch to the "on" position.

Enable SafeSearch on Mobile Devices. In addition to your computer, you will probably also want to enable SafeSearch on any mobile device that your child uses regularly. For instructions on how to enable SafeSearch on a variety of mobile devices, check out Google's SafeSearch Mobile support page.

As we all know, kids are going to be kids and try to test their boundaries. We put up one roadblock and they go around it. It's a constant cat and mouse game and there will always be some internet door that we as parents forget to lock, and that will be the one that the kids get through, but we do the best we can.

  24. Which of the following are kids NOT likely to use Google to do?

To find information for homework assignments.

To find everything except information and funny cat videos.

To find funny cat videos on the Internet.

To find everything between information and funny cat videos.

Your kids likely use Google to help them find everything from information for homework assignments, to funny cat videos, and everything in between.

  25. What does the underlined “options” in Paragraph 2 mean?

  Judgments

  B. Uses

  C.

  Functions

  D. Choices

  26. What’s the first thing you’d do before setting Google SafeSearch?

Sign up and log into your Google account.

find the “Search Settings” preferences page.

Find the label “ Filter explicit results”.

  Click the “Lock SafeSearch” link.

If you are not already logged into your Google account, you will need to do so in order to lock SafeSearch to the "on" position. 故A正确。

  27. How do you enable SafeSearch on Mobile devices?

  A. Read the instructions of the related mobile devices directly.

  B. Look for some Internet door to be sure we parents did not forget to lock it.

  C. Check out Google’s SafeSearch Mobile support page for instructions.

  D. Check in the box with the label any mobile devices.

For instructions on how to enable SafeSearch on a variety of mobile devices, check out Google's SafeSearch Mobile support page.

  C

A team of engineers at Harvard University has been inspired by Nature to create the first robotic fly. The mechanical fly has become a platform for a series of new high-tech integrated systems. Designed to do what a fly does naturally, the tiny machine is the size of a fat housefly. Its mini wings allow it to stay in the air and perform controlled flight tasks.

“It’s extremely important for us to think about this as a whole system and not just the sum of a bunch of individual components (元件),” said Robert Wood, the Harvard engineering professor who has been working on the robotic fly project for over a decade. A few years ago, his team got the go-ahead to start piecing together the components. “The added difficulty with a project like this is that actually none of those components are off the shelf and so we have to develop them all on our own,” he said.

They engineered a series of systems to start and drive the robotic fly. “The seemingly simple system which just moves the wings has a number of interdependencies on the individual components, each of which individually has to perform well, but then has to be matched well to everything it’s connected to,” said Wood. The flight device was built into a set of power, computation, sensing and control systems. Wood says the success of the project proves that the flying robot with these tiny components can be built and manufactured.

While this first robotic flyer is linked to a small, off-board power source, the goal is eventually to equip it with a built-in power source, so that it might someday perform data-gathering work at rescue sites, in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield. “Basically it should be able to take off, land and fly around,” he said.

Wood says the design offers a new way to study flight mechanics and control at insect-scale. Yet, the power, sensing and computation technologies on board could have much broader applications. “You can start thinking about using them to answer open scientific questions, you know, to study biology in ways that would be difficult with the animals, but using these robots instead,” he said. “So there are a lot of technologies and open interesting scientific questions that are really what drives us on a day to day basis.”

  28. The difficulty the team of engineers met with while making the robotic fly was that __________.

  A. they had no model in their mind

  B. they did not have sufficient time

  C. they had no ready-made components

  D. they could not assemble the components

  29. It can be inferred from paragraphs 3 and 4 that the robotic fly __________.

  A. consists of a flight device and a control system

  B. can just fly in limited areas at the present time

  C. can collect information from many sources

  D. has been put into wide application

根据第三段倒数第二句“he flight device was built into a set of power, computation, sensing and control systems”可知A项是错误的。根据第四段第一句“While this first robotic flyer is linked to a small, off-board power source”和“Basically it should be able to take off, land and fly around,”可知,目前由于电池等的限制,只能在有限的区域飞行。 根据第四段的“so that it might someday perform data-gathering work at rescue sites, in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield”可知该飞行器是在someday将来的某一天才能从不同的地方收集信息,而不是现在,因此排除C项。 30. Which of the following can be learned from the passage?

  A. The robotic flyer is designed to learn about insects.

  B. Animals are not allowed in biological experiments.

  C. There used to be few ways to study how insects fly.

  D. Wood’s design can replace animals in some experiments.

根据第四段的it might someday perform data-gathering work at rescue sites, in farmers’ fields or on the battlefield可知,A项是错误的。B项中animals are not allowed 是错的,应该是difficult with animals,即有些用动物来做试验是困难的,不是不允许。C项在文中并没有提到以前方法的多少,文中只是说offers a new way to study,提供了新的方法,故排除C项。根据最后一段的 you know, to study biology in ways that would be difficult with the animals, but using these robots instead,可知,有些试验用动物很苦难,但是可以用机器人来替代,故选择D项。 31. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?

  A. Father of Robotic Fly

  B. Inspiration from Engineering Science

  C. Robotic Fly Imitates Real Life Insect

  D. Harvard Breaks Through in Insect Study

  D

  Q&A

Question: I have recently got a senior position within my company. One of my new tasks is to make monthly progress reports on my department in front of other senior officials. During my first meeting, I presented and then opened the floor to questions.

  36

My first reaction was to answer defensively.Later, I realized that I shouldn’t have felt that way.But how can I keep cool and effectively answer questions in this type of settings?

Answer: Congratulations on your new position! Presenting in front of your peers (同事) is a hard task in itself and it becomes much more difficult when a question-and-answer period is required! Question-and-answer periods are a great way to clarify the message and strengthen key points.

  39

These techniques allow you to quickly organize your thoughts as well as to make sure you will be correctly answering the question.

  ● Suggest a private meeting.

A one-to-one meeting is a calmer setting than speaking in front of your peers.

G.Here are some ideas that can help prepare for your next meeting.

DGAFE

37.G 根据下文的三段中的● Buy time ● Suggest a private meeting.说明都是针对这个问题提出的建议,所以本句是一个串联上下文的过渡句,故G项“Here are some ideas that can help prepare for your next meeting.” When a person is asking a question, show interest and a desire to说明对于别人提出的问题,要表现出你很感兴趣。 故A项“Show your true interest.” Buy time by repeating the question in your own words. These techniques allow you to quickly organize your thoughts as well as to make sure you will be correctly answering the question. You may also ask for clarification on the question.

A one-to-one meeting is a calmer setting than speaking in front of your peers.

“…, his wide old hand resting on his knees.” 这一部分是独立主格结构;his wide old hand相当于一个主语,resting on his knees相当于一个谓语;写成一个独立的句子就是:His wide old hand rested on his knees; rest在这儿意为“靠某物支撑”,如:She rested her elbows on the table.= Her elbows rested on the table.故C正确。 58. 名词wonder奇观;doubt怀疑;artist艺术家;author作者;both were works of wonder 两者均为神奇的杰作。故A正确。 60. 形容词wrong错误的;right正确的;false错误的;true真正的,真实的;形容词true在这儿应译为“真正的;名副其实的”That is true.

___70____ (polite) never goes out of fashion.

  61. which

  62. actually

  63. be replied

  64. have taken

  65. the

  66. to greet

  67. but

  68. respectful

  69. with

  70. politeness

  63. be replied

本句主语your answer与动词reply to回复,回答,构成被动关系,所以使用被动语态,故使用be replied。

  64. have taken

It/This is/was the序数词 time that从句,句意:是某人第几次做某事的时候了。

  65. the

  66. to greet

本句中how to greet a caller充当动词know的宾语。

  67. but

  68. respectful

  69. with

短语communicate with...

  注意:1.每处错误及其修改均仅限一词;

I am travelling back with my parents from seeing my grandparents then it started to snow. At first, I thought it was fun and everything looked beautifully. I was looking forward to make a snowman in the playground at school the next day, and suddenly the car drove off road and into a channel. My father called the rescue team, but they said that would be a long time before they could reach us. However, we sang songs and told stories to pass the time. Several hour later, the rescue team pulled their car out of the channel. At last, we managed to drive very slowly to home. I would never forget this experience.

  1. am改为was

  2. then改为when

  3. beautifully改为beautiful

  4. make改为making

  5. off后加the

  6. that改为it

  7. However改为Therefore

  8. hour改为hours

  9. their改为our

  10.删除to

  2. then改为when

本句是一个固定句式:be doing sth when......

  4. make改为making

  6. that改为it

  9. their改为our

类似的结构有:on the way home在回家的路上。

  Dear Sir or Madame,

I am a middle school student. I am writing to express my dissatisfaction and disappointment about the unpleasant experience when I bought some books from the Internet the other day.

The reason for my dissatisfaction and disappointment is that the books I bought online were beyond my expectation. In the first place, they were poorly printed. In addition, some books are slightly damaged and even some pages are missing. Needless to say, the price of some books is even higher than that in our local Xinhua Bookstores.

To solve these problems, I am writing this letter to you, hoping that my letter will arouse the attention of the public through this media. I am fully confident that they will improve their service with the supervision of the public opinion.

I would be grateful if you could take my opinion into consideration.

  Yours sincerely,

  Li Hua
