【阅读理解】
William Butler Yeats, a most famous Irish writer, was born in Dublin on June 13,1865. His childhood lacked the harmony (和睦) that was typical of a happy family. Later, Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered “little of childhood but its pain”. In fact, he inherited (继承) excellent taste in art from his family—both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama (戏剧) and poetry.
Yeats had strong faith in the coming of new artistic movements. He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s.His early theatrical experiments, however, were not received favorably at the beginning. He didn't lose heart, and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama.
Compared with his dramatic works, Yeats's poems attract much admiring notice. The subject matter includes love, nature, history, time and aging. Though Yeats generally relied on very traditional forms, he brought modern sensibility to them. As his literary life progressed, his poetry grew finer and richer, which led him to worldwide recognition.
He had not enjoyed a major public life since winning the Nobel Prize in 1923.Yet,he continued writing almost to the end of his life. Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40,he would probably now be valued as a minor poet, for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 75. After Yeats's death in 1939, W.H. Auden wrote, among others, the following lines:
Earth,receive an honoured guest:
William Yeats is laid to rest.
Let the Irish vessel (船) lie
Emptied of its poetry.

阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。Alibaba started taking the lead in China by connecting big Chinese manufacturers with big buyers across the world. Its business-to-business site, Alibaba. com allowed business to buy almost everything. Alibaba’s advantage wasn’t hard to judge: size. Alibaba is just big, even by Chinese standards. Its market attracts 231 million active buyers, 8 million sellers, 11.3 billion orders a year—and Alibaba is iust the middleman. It encourages people to use its markets—not charging small sellers a percentage of the sale.
If you want a quick look into the influence of Alibaba on daily Chinese life, take my experience. I moved to Beijing a year ago and quickly got tired of visiting small stores across the crowded, polluted city of 20 million people in search of new electronics, bathroom furnishings, and anything else my wife wanted. “You’re looking for what exactly? Why not try it? ”my Chinese teacher asked me one day.
With that, my wonderful new relationship with Alibaba began.
Alibaba’s original business-to-business model now is second to consumer buying. Chinese retail buying makes up 80% of Alibaba’s profit, and leading that group is Taobao, with 800 million items for sale and the most unbelievable selection of things you’ll ever find. TMall. com is Alibaba’s other big site, where you can find brand name goods from Nike and Unilever near the lowest prices.
What I have a hard time explaining to friends and family back in the U. S. is how China has gone beyond traditional shopping—big—box retailers especially—in favor of online purchases on Taobao and a few other sites. In smaller towns than Beijing, where big retailers have not yet traveled, shopping online is shopping, and shopping is Taobao.
I have a list of some of my recent purchases on Taobao for a sense of how wide the marketplace is.
Almost everything arrived a day or two after ordering with free shipping. I’m not even a big buyer, because I need friends to help me search the Chinese—language site. When I was searching my purchase history on my Chinese teacher’s iPad, which helps me buy goods, I looked through with great difficulty about 10 of her purchases for every one of mine.
1. Alibaba’s advantage mainly lies in ________.
A. its low price
B. its not charging small sellers
C. its business-to-business service
D. its big size
2. In paragraph 1, by referring to “Alibaba” as “the middleman”, the author means _______.
A. Alibaba stands out as the best online site.
B. Alibaba is of middle size among all the online sites.
C. Alibaba acts as a bridge between the buyers and sellers.
D. Alibaba will continue to develop.
3. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. Taobao has no obvious advantage over other similar online sites.
B. Alibaba’s business-to-business service earns more money than retail.
C. The author’s Chinese teacher is also an online purchase lover.
D. TMall. com provides more profit than Taobao.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How the author purchases online in China.
B. Alibaba influences people’s daily purchase i China.
C. Shopping online in China is TaoBao.
D. Shopping online goes beyond traditional shopping.

2016高考训练题。阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。 It's 10:30 pm, and 11-year-old Brandon Blanco is sound asleep at home. Suddenly, a loud noise wakes him up. Naturally, Brandon reaches for his cell phone. The message becomes clear: "R U awake?"
Brandon' s use of technology doesn' t stop there. He also has a computer, a TV and three video-game consoles (控制台 ) in his room. With so many choices, it' s no surprise that when he isn' t at school, he spends nearly every waking minute using one or more of these devices Brandon is hardly alone. According to a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, kids aged 8 to18 are spending more time than ever before using electronic devices. How much time? More than seven and a half hours a day on average, the study found.
The jump is the result of a huge explosion in mobile devices, says Victoria Rideout, the lead author of the study. Today, nearly seven out of ten kids have cell phones. Just five years ago, it was four out of ten.
Often, kids multitask, or use more than one device at a time. " If you’ve got a chance to do something on your computer and take a phone call and have the TV on in the background, why not?" media expert Cheryl Olson says.
Most experts agree technology has much to offer kids. But some worry the kids could be missing out on other activities like playing outside or hanging out with friends. " It' s a matter of balance," says Olson." You’ve got to work on it. "
Multitasking while doing homework is another concern. Some kids listen to music, watch TV or use the phone while doing their homework. "It' s important to make sure that you can stop and concentrate on one thing deeply, " says Rideout.
With new and exciting devices hitting stores every year, keeping technology use in check is more important than ever. " Kids should try," adds Rideout. " But parents might have to step in sometimes. "
1. Why do children spend more time in using electronic devices?
A. Because electronic devices are more exciting than before.
B. Because more electronic devices are available to them.
C. Because they have less other activities.
D. Because they have less homework to do.
2. It is known from the passage that
____.
A. Brandon Blanco feels very annoyed about his late-night text
B. the teenagers using mobile devices have increased by 30% in the past five years
C. most experts think teenagers should not use electronic devices for their studies
D. Cheryl Olson is not surprised about kids' increasing use of mobile
devices
3. Which of the following is an example of multitasking according to the passage?
A. Playing video games on the Internet.
B. Talking on the phone while staying with others.

D. Listening to music while relaxing.
4. The underlined phrase "in check" in the last paragraph can be replaced by "____".
A. in order
B. in control
C. in store
D. in sight

阅读理解—推理判断题。
(2015年湖北襄阳四中、龙泉中学、荆州中学联考)
Are you an optimist? Do you look at your glass and see it as half full? Do you believe that every cloud has a silver lining and that things generally turn out for the best? Do you believe that if something is meant to be, it will be? If you reply “yes” to all of these questions, then you are an optimist. You probably are enthusiastic, cheerful and outgoing. You may be successful at work and in love.
But you may be misguided because things don't turn out for the best. You may believe that when on door closes another one opens(for example, you may fail to obtain a new job; another chance will come around soon). Wrong. When one door closes, another door slams(砰然关上)in your face. That's bitter reality.
Now a book has been published which confirms what pessimists(悲观者)have suspected all along. it's called The Positive Power of Defensive Pessimism. Its author argues that defensive pessimism can lead to positive results. Defensive pessimism is a strategy used to manage fear, anxiety and worry. Defensive pessimists prepare for the tings by setting low outcomes for themselves. They carefully consider everything that may go wrong and plan for ways to handle these problems. And this gives them a sense of control. Lawrence Sanno, a psychology professor, says, “What's interesting about defensive pessimists is that they tend to be very successful people, so their low opinion of the situation's outcomes is not realistic. They use it to motivate themselves to perform better.”
So far,so good. This is not rocket science. Defensive pessimists prepare carefully and consider what might go wrong, whether at work, on date or even in a sports game. It makes sense to have a back-up plan. There are many sayings in English urging caution. For example, “Don't put all your eggs in one basket.”
And “Don't count your chickens until they hatch.” To have a confident and optimistic approach to life's problems is good. But listen to what Woody Alien, the American comedian says ,”Confidence is what you have before you understand the problem.”
There are pros and cons to being an optimist and a pessimist. Don't feel bad if you see the glass half empty. You are a realist But lighten up and hook up with someone who sees the same glass half full.
What's the passage mainly about?
A book that has recently been published.
How to become successful in life
The dangers of being too optimistic.
The benefits of defensive pessimism.
The underlined sentence “ This is not rocket science”(Para.4)means
.
it's not a dangerous thing to do
it is quite simple to understand
the cost is not so high
there is no real proof
which of the following English expressions would a defensive pessimist believe?
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
The glass is half full not half empty.
Whatever will be, will be.
Every cloud has a silver lining.
The writer would probably describe himself as
An optimist
B. a defeatist
C. a realist
D. a scientist
