第9期Practice听说训练录音材料
Part A: Reading Aloud
At the northern end of Africa’s Great Rift Valley lies an area unlike anywhere on Earth. This is the Danakil Desert in Ethiopia, perhaps the most inhospitable place known to man. Volcanoes and earthquakes continually rip the ground apart, spewing lava and noxious gases. And this is officially the hottest place on the surface of the planet. The idea that anyone would actually live here seems absurd. And yet there are people living here, as they have for thousands of years — a legendary nomadic warrior tribe called the Afar.
Part B:Role Play
M: Hi, Rosy. Have you seen any movies recently?
W: Yes. I saw Just My Luck last night.
M: What do you think of it?
W: It was pretty cool. How about you?
M: I saw it too. I think it is just OK. Maybe I am not a big fan of comedies.
W: I like guys like Jake. Though bad luck follows him everywhere, he still has a cheery outlook on life, and then becomes a successful manager.
M: But that is just a movie.
W: At least he is still positive about life. Jake is a real man in my eyes.
M: How about me? Am I that bad in your eyes?
W: Well, you are a nice friend to have. I wish I could meet a man like Jake.
M: Actually, you have met one already.
W: What? Bad Simon!
Part C:Story Retelling
Mr Perkin stood at the bus stop and watched the cars go by. Many of the cars were new Beta 400s, and most of them were yellow. Mr Perkin always wore the same clothes as other men, ate the same food as other people, and did the same things after work, and at the end of the week. Mr Perkin did not like to be different.
The following week, Mr Perkin bought a new, bright yellow Beta 400s. He was satisfied with it, and drove to work in it the very next day. He was even more satisfied with his new car, when he saw all the other Beta 400s, in front, behind, and on both sides of him.
Mr Perkin parked his car in a big car-park near his office, and walked the rest of the way. But when he came back at five o’clock, there were so many bright yellow Beta 400s in the car-park that he did not know which car was his. He tried his key in some of the cars, but people passing by gave him a look he didn’t like. So he stopped. Poor Mr Perkin had to wait nearly two hours until his was the only yellow Beta 400s in the car-park.
