1.Dear Editor:
I am a Senior Three student, Recently we have carried out a survey –“To whom do you go when in trouble ?”The main findings are as follows.
61% of the students surveyed select friends or schoolmates as their ideal listeners when they have trouble and want to confide, the reason of which is that they are in the same age group and have a better understanding of each other, Another 22% choose teachers and parents to talk to ,They suggest that teachers and parents are rich in life and educational experiences, Nevertheless, there are also 17% who don't share their troubles at all, They say that their troubles are none of other’s business, Others find it hard to convers with others.
(It is not easy to reach definite conclusions based on such a small example, However ,some general comments can be made, ) It seems clear from the response that some students lack communication with others and teachers and parents need to play a more important role in their lives.
Yours sincerely.
Zhang Ming

Recently, the students of Senior 3 in our school have had a discussion about whether we should have classes on weekends.
30% of them think they should have classes on weekends because the College Entrance Examination this year will be held in June, and students should make full use of free time to review what they have learnt.
Another30% are against the idea of having classes on weekends. They believe students should have a good rest on weekends so that they can study more effectively during the weekdays.
The other 40% of the students don’t agree with either of the ideas above. In their opinion, study and rest are both important for students. They suggest one day of the weekend should be used to study and during the other day they have a rest.

Dear John,
I’d like to tell you about the discussion we’ve just had. It’s about how to spend time outside school efficiently, since the authority of Jiangsu has required that senior middle school students shouldn’t spend more than 8 hours a day studying at school.
Opinions are divided on the topic. Some of my classmates choose to read more in their spare time. They think reading can enrich their knowledge and prepare them for their further studies.
Some prefer to make use of their spare time to surf the Internet. For one thing, they can collect necessary information on line. For another, they can share ideas with friends in every corner of the world.
Others love to spend their spare time taking exercise to strengthen their bodies, while still others
would choose to do some part-time jobs. On the one hand, they can put themselves in touch with society. On the other hand, they can learn to be independent.
As far as I am concerned, I would …
Bye for now!
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming

Post-90’s Generation
We, post-90’s generation, are living in a society full of fierce competition, and developing our special manners and values, which has raised people’s concern.
It’s true that the post-90’s generation have some weaknesses. Some of us, for example, rely on our parents too much and tend to live comfortable lives. Some are even selfish and center everything on themselves. They care little for others.
At the same time, the post-90’s generation desire to learn more about the world around us, and we are independent in thinking. We always keep up with modern science and technology and have many new ideas.
In my opinion, we are sure to succeed as long as we work hard and we will be able to make great contributions to our motherland.
5.
A recent survey shows most students often communicate with their parents, but there are still some who think it embarrassing to share their ideas with them.
Actually everyone should attach importance to family communication. It can strengthen the bond of the whole family and bridge the gap between children and parents. Besides, sharing your personal problems and emotions will greatly help reduce the pressure on you and build up your confidence.
As for my family, we have a special dinner together every Saturday evening, over which everyone present takes turns to share one problem while the others try to suggest solutions. In this way the whole family can enjoy every single bit of life. I think my family will stick to the tradition forever.
6.
One possible version 1:
I prefer my English classes to be taught in English only. As we all know, a good learning environment is vital if we want to study English well. Classes taught in English provide students with such an environment. When English is the only language used in the classroom, students will have more opportunities to practice listening and speaking. Therefore, they will be able to learn more quickly.
However, there are also some problems with this teaching method. As we haven’t mastered enough English words, sometimes we may find it difficult to follow the teacher. Slow learners may even lose interest in English.
Practice makes perfect. To learn English well requires a lot of practice. Therefore, I like my English classes to be taught completely in English.
One possible version 2:
I prefer my English classes to be taught in both Chinese and English. In my opinion, learning English is a step-by-step process. As middle school students, we only have a small vocabulary. If the teacher can use some Chinese in an English class, we will understand the lesson better.
Of course, an English class taught in two languages has its shortcoming. Such a class cannot create a good atmosphere for English learning. Some students may speak Chinese all the time and cannot learn English well.
If you want to learn a lesson well, you have to understand it first. To help students understand the lesson better, the teacher should use Chinese from time to time. Therefore, I like my teacher to use both English and Chinese in teaching.
