  steal与rob 虽然这两个词都是及物动词,但用法不同。

  be furnished with备有, 安装有, 陈设有 (1) furnish vt. ① 布置、配备家具, 陈设 The manager's office was furnished with antiques.

  tolerate,

  stand与bear

  三个词都含有一定的“忍耐、忍受”之意, 在表示忍受pain, suffering, hardship等时, 在许多情况下这三个词可以互换使用;通常与can或cannot连用。 ① tolerate指忍受某人或某种行为而不反抗, 语气最弱(既可用于肯定句也可用于否定句)。 Why will you tolerate that impudent fellow? 你为什么要忍受那个无礼的家伙呢? 5、 ② stand强调不屈不挠或经受得起(常用于否定句中)。 I can't stand a lot of noise when I'm reading.

  当我读书时, 忍受不了那么大的噪音。 ③ bear强调忍受者对痛苦、忧虑、烦恼以及责任的承受(常用于否定句中)。 He could not bear their conceit like this.

  6、put forward ① 提出 ② 推荐(某人或自己)任某职位;提名

  男子决赛提前到1:30举行。 ④ 将(钟、表等)拨快 汉译英。 1. 他在会上提出了一个很好的建议。 He put forward a very good suggestion at the meeting.

  2. 你应该把表朝前拨快10分钟。 You ought to put your watch forward ten minutes.

  7、appoint vt. 任命;约定;确定或决定(日期等)

  She has been appoinded to meet John at the entrance of the hall.

  她已经和约翰约好了在大厅门口见面。 ① appointment n. 任命, 任用;(被任用的)工作;约会 ② appointed adj. 任命的;约定的 用appoint的适当形式填空。 1. Sorry,

  8、possession n. 占有;拥有;领地;属地;[C]&[U]财产 ① take possession of 拿过来;夺取;没收

  While our team is in possession of/has possession of the ball, the other team can't score.

  没有人知道这件事是怎么发生的。 ② 改变方向;(船只)转向 ① come across 偶然遇见;理解 ② come out 算出来;开花;出版 ③ come over 到来, 顺便到访 ④ come by 弄得;获得(珍稀或难以得到的东西) 汉译英。 1. 他是怎么知道我们在什么地方的?

  How did it come about that he knew where we were? 2. 船随着风向的改变不时地转变航向。

  The ship came about from time to time as the wind changed.

  用come短语的适当形式填空。 3. It's already 10 o'clock. I wonder how it came about that she was two hours late on such a short trip.

  10、weep (wept, wept)

  vt. & vi. 哭泣;流泪 ① weep about 为……而哭泣 What ever is the child weeping about now? 那个孩子究竟为什么哭呢? ② weep over/for 因……而哭泣 He wept over/for the loss of his mother.

  他因为失去了妈妈而哭泣。 ③ weep for 哭着想要 The child wept for a new toy.

  那个孩子哭着想要一个新玩具。 ④ weep oneself to sleep 哭着哭着睡着了 The little girl wept herself to sleep.

  小女孩哭着哭着睡着了。 cry, weep与sob ① cry一般指因悲伤、痛苦、愤怒或恐惧而哭泣, 通常指哭出声来。 ② weep指小声或无声地哭泣, 多用于书面语。 ③ sob指因极度悲伤、痛苦而呜咽、抽泣, 尤其指“泣不成声”。 根据括号内的提示完成句子。 1.The girl wept with disappointment (因失望而哭). 2.On hearing the good news, my mother wept (涌出)tears of joy.

  11、stick up ① 翘起, 竖起, 突起 He is very cocky, his tail sticking high up in the air.
