　　表示方位时to有“相隔”之意,不强调接壤;in表示“在……范围内”;on表示“相邻、靠近、接壤、在……河畔、湖边”;lie off指“远离”。

　　方位词east,west,south,north既可以用作名词,也可以用作副词。用作名词时,前面有定冠词the,如果表示某一个地方在另外一个地方的什么方位,前面需加介词in,on,to;用作副词时前面没有冠词,表示方位也不加介词。例如:
