  2016年湖北武汉高考英语阅读理解二轮基础训练(28)(含答案)

2016高考训练题。阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。Pilling a cat can be a “terrible” experience. Cats don’t want something pushed down their throats, and they’ll fight with all their strength to prevent it. In fact, it’s amazing how powerful their small bodies can be.

The easiest way of pilling a cat is to press the pill into powder. Then mix the powder with a small amount of wet food. If your cat usually eats dry food, she will probably view the wet food as a treat and eat it up.

If your cat won’t eat the wet food that contains the pill or if she is too ill to eat, you can get a “pill gun”. There are some basic instructions. Getting your cat’s mouth to open is going to be the most difficult part. First, be sure the pill is in a handy place. Then you can put your cat on a bookshelf with her bottom in a corner or you can put her on your lap firmly tied. Have your cat facing to the right if you’re right-handed. With your left hand, hold your cat at the cheekbones, putting your palm at the top of her head. Keeping your finger off the trigger (扳机), with your right hand, insert the pill gun until the pill is positioned over the tongue and open throat. Be sure to give your cat a treat directly after giving the pill.

If you don’t feel comfortable using a pill gun, you can try giving the pill by hand. Push your cat’s head backwards just far enough so that her nose is pointing towards the ceiling. At this point, most cats will slightly open their mouths. With the little finger or ring finger of the hand holding the pill, open the bottom jaw a little more. You may need to hold her top jaw with your other hand while doing this. Aim straight and lightly throw the pill or drop it. Most cats will then swallow the pill.

  1. Pilling a cat can be a terrible experience because cats ______.

  A. are amazingly powerful and dangerous

  B. may fight with all their strength against pills

  C. refuse something pressed down their throats

  D. are difficult to treat once they’ve got ill

  2. What can be inferred according to the second paragraph?

  A. Wet food with medicine is usually a treat to cats.

  B. Cats used to dry food must reject wet food.

  C. The easiest pilling is to press the pill into powder.

  D. Cats are probably interested in something new.

  3. Using a “pill gun”, you had better hold your cat ______ if you’re left-handed.

  A. facing to the right

  B. with your right hand

  C. at the head

  D. on your lap firmly

  4. A cat probably opens its mouth naturally when ______.

  A. its nose is straight upwards

  阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

As we drove along, my spirits went up again, and I turned, with pleasure, to the thought of the new life which I was entering. But though it was not far past the middle of September, the heavy clouds and strong north-easterly wind combined to make the day extremely cold; and the journey seemed a very long one, so that it was nearly one o’clock before we reached the place of our destination. Yet when we entered the gateway, my heart failed me, and I wished it were a mile or two farther off. For the first time in my life I must stand alone: there was no retreating now. I must enter that house, and introduce myself among its strange people. But how was it to be done? True, I was near nineteen; but, thanks to the protecting care of my mother and sister, I well knew that many a girl of fifteen, or under, was gifted with a more womanly address, and greater ease and self-possession, than I was. Yet, anyway. I would do very well, after all; and the children, of course, I should soon be at ease with them.

"Be calm, be calm, whatever happens," I said within myself; and truly I was so fully occupied in steadying my nerves and keeping down the rebellious beat of my heart that when I was admitted into the hall and into the presence of Mrs. Bloomfield, I almost forgot to answer her polite greeting; and it afterwards struck me that the little I did say was spoken in the tone of one half-dead or half-asleep.

With due politeness, however, she showed me my bedroom, and left me there to take a little refreshment for a little while and led me into the dining-room. Some beefsteaks and potatoes were set before me; and while I dined upon these, she sat opposite, watching me (as I thought) and trying to keep something like a conversation— consisting chiefly of commonplace remarks. In fact, my attention was almost wholly absorbed in my dinner: not from appetite, but from the toughness of the beefsteaks, and the numbness of my hands.

“I have had so little time to attend to their education myself, but I think they are clever children, and very willing to learn, especially the little boy; he is, I think, the flower of the flock— a generous, noble-spirited boy, one to be led, but not driven, and remarkable for always speaking the truth.” “His sister Mary Ann will require watching,” continued she, “but she is a very good girl on the whole, though I wish her to be kept out of the nursery as much as possible, as she is now almost six years old, and might acquire bad habits from the nurses. I have ordered her bed to be placed in your room, and if you will be so kind as to look after her washing and dressing, and take charge of her clothes, she needs to have nothing further to do with the nursery maid.”

I replied I was quite willing to do so; and at that moment the children entered the room. Tom Bloomfield was a well-grown boy of seven. Mary was a tall girl, for her age of six, somewhat dark like her mother. The second sister was Fanny, a very pretty little girl, looking little younger than Mary. The remaining one was Harriet, a little broad, fat, merry, playful thing of scarcely two, whom I had more desire for than all the rest — but with her I had nothing to do.

  1. Which of the following statements best describes how the writer felt when she entered Mrs. Bloomfield's home?

  A. She was nervous, dissatisfied with her manners but still confident.

  B. She was cold, hungry but eager to see all the children in the family.

  C. She was frightened, nervous and regretful about her decision.

  D. She was calm, confident and very happy with all the family.

  2. What job would the writer take in Mrs Bloomfield's home?

  A. A nursery maid.B. A house cleaner.

  C. A home cook.D. A family teacher.

  3. Which of the following was TRUE according to the passage?

  A. The writer had some difficulty with her lunch because of the tough food and the cold.

  B. The delicious food took the writer's attention away from Mrs. Bloomfield’s words.

  C. All the children were well educated before the writer came to the family.

  D. All the children in the family were looked after by Mrs Bloomfield herself.

  4. From the passage, we can infer that ______.

  A. Mrs Bloomfield would treat the writer kindly and help her a lot

  B. the youngest girl Harriet would be the writer’s favorite student

  C. the writer would take on more responsibilities than she should

  D. Tom Bloomfield would be the cleverest of all the children

  较难题目特训:介绍说明类

  阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A study has showed that the brain makes decisions about 10 seconds before a person realizes it.

Experts involved in the study said that looking at brain activity while making a decision, they could predict the choices the subjects would make, before they realized that they had made a decision. Lead researcher John-Dylan Haynes, a neuroscientist (神经学家)at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, said that the new findings called into questions for “consciousness”of decisions that people make, and might even challenge ideas as to how“free”people are to make a decision at a particular moment.

“We think our decisions are conscious, but these data show that consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg,”Nature magazine quoted (引用) him as saying. Thinking the results“quite dramatic”, Frank Tong of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, said that 10 seconds is“a lifetime”in terms of brain activity.

During the study, the brains of 14 volunteers were imaged as they performed a decision-making task. The subjects had two buttons before them, each to be operated by a different hand, which they could press when they felt the urge to. They were simultaneously (同时地)shown a stream of letters, which appeared on a screen at half-second intervals (间隔). The volunteers had to remember which letter was showing when they decided to press their button.

Upon analysis of the data, the researchers realized that the earliest signal they could catch started seven seconds before the volunteers reported having made their decision. Given the delay of a few seconds in the imaging, they reckoned (估计) that the brain activity could have begun about ten seconds before the conscious decision. The researchers showed that the signals were picked up from a region (区域)called the frontopolar cortex (脑额极皮层), which is located at the front of the brain, immediately behind the forehead.

While writing about the observations made during the research in his study report, Haynes said that the frontopolar cortex might be the brain region where decisions are started. He also showed that the next step in the research would be to speed up the data analysis so as to enable his team to predict people’s choices as their brains would make them.

  A. we are aware of our whole process of decision-making

  B. people don’t make decisions until they realize it

  C. experts have no way to tell what decision one will make

  D. the decision-making process starts before it is made

  A. the topic of the experts’ research paper

  B. the scientific subjects that the experts were studying

  C. the things that experts don’t know clearly

  D. the volunteers that the experts worked on for their research

  3. The underlined sentence“consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg”in Para. 4 means that ______.

  A. our decision-making is conscious

  B. the data contains a lot of information besides consciousness

  C. consciousness is the major part of the data

  D. 10 seconds is“a lifetime”in terms of brain activity

  4. The final purpose of the research ______.

  A. is not stated clearly in the passage

  B. is not acknowledged by experts

  C. is to show where decision-making starts

  D. is to analyze the data picked up

  5. The passage implies that ______.

  A. the research has been completed

  B. the research was conducted by two experts

  C. the decision-making process lasts only about 10 seconds

  D. we may predict what decisions people will make in the future
