常见的命题形式有:① List the items of… ② List three factors of… ③ Find out the advantage of…

主要考查that、it、this、they、 them、one等代词或文章中其他词语的指代关系。 What does the word “it” probably refer to? (no more than 3 words)

② What does the writer really mean by saying…? ③ Why does the author mention…? ④ Which is the result of…? ⑤ Where in the passage does the author describe…?

:,,,,People spend many dollars each year on items like boats and four-wheel-drive vehicles. In addition, they spend money on fishing equipment, bait, fuel and boat repairs. And you can see that fishing can be an expensive pastime. Fishing lovers believe that their hobby is worth it. Others say that fishing is spoiling the environment and that it is a cruel hobby.

[2] Supporters of fishing say that it is a nice hobby. Firstly, of the millions of people who fish for fun, most only catch enough fish to feed their families. They catch fish that are found in large numbers, so there is little danger to the species (种类).

[3] Secondly, recreational fishermen contribute to the economy. They spend money on equipment and other items, and they also spend it indirectly by paying taxes on their equipment and fuel. Those who travel to fishing spots pay for accommodation (食宿) and airfares. This money keeps people in work and provides new jobs each year.

[4] Thirdly, fishing is relaxing and fun so it lessens stress. Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, it is far better to go fishing. People who are relaxed are generally healthier and much nicer to be near— except for the smell of the bait!

[5] Those who _______________ say that there are too many fish thoughtlessly taken from rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. This could lead to the dying out of some species. Modern cars and boats mean that people can fish in remote areas of the world, so no place is safe from greedy fishermen who take both males and females, leaving few fish to produce young.

[6] Those against fishing also say that it is a blood sport, which means that an animal must die so that a human can have fun. Many of the fish caught for sport are not suitable for eating, so they are thrown away. Once hooked, fish have no chance of escape.

  76. What’ s the main idea of the passage? (no more than 4 words)

  _______________________________________________________________________

  77. According to Paragraph 2, why does fishing cause little danger to the species? (no more than 8 words)

  _______________________________________________________________________

  78. List 4 items on which people spend their money for fishing. (no more than 7 words)

  _______________________________________________________________________

  79. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 5 with proper words. (no more than 4 words)

Those who _____________ say that there are too many fish thoughtlessly taken from rivers, lakes, streams and oceans.

  80. What does the word “which” (Line 2, Paragraph 6) probably refer to? (no more than 3 words)

Becoming aware of the warning signs of learning disabilities and getting children the necessary help early on can be key to a child’s future.

Learning disabilities affect one in seven people according to the National Institutes of Health. Parents, therefore, need to be familiar with the early indicators of a learning disability in order to get the right help as soon as possible.

The earlier a learning disability is detected, the better chance a child will have of succeeding in school and in life. Parents are encouraged to understand the warning signs of a learning disability from as early as pre-school. The first years in school are especially crucial for a young child.

The most common learning disability is difficulty with language and reading. A recent National Institutes of Health study showed that 67 percent of young students identified as being at risk for reading difficulties were able to achieve average or above average reading ability when they received help early.

Many children and adults with learning disabilities remain undiagnosed and go through life with this “hidden handicap (障碍)”.

The resulting problems can lead to poor self esteem, failure to thrive in school, and difficulty in the workplace. With early detection and intervention (干预), parents can give their children the necessary skills for coping with and compensating (补偿) for the learning disability.

All children learn in highly individual ways. Children with learning disabilities simply process information differently, but they are generally of normal or above-average intelligence. Having a learning disability can affect a child’s ability to read, write, speak, do math, and build social relationships.

As adults, some of our most memorable memories are likely to come from childhood holidays: decorating the tree at Christmas time, lighting the candles for Kwanzaa, or spending the New Year with the noisemakers. But holidays aren’t just for helping adults feel a connection with the past. They also create a structure and annual rhythm that will carry our children into the future.

Indeed, in a world in which children constantly are experiencing developmental, social, and academic changes, family traditions provide stepping stones that lead us from season to season, year to year. It gives children a sense of security to know how their world works, that on Christmas Eve, the family always goes to midnight mass The songs, sights, and stories of the winter holidays also help children experience feelings of respect, feelings that aren’t often encouraged in our rather cynical (悲观的) modern culture. The time spent with loved ones also can promote a deep sense of family roots and cultural history, which in itself is key for developing a sense of belonging, well-being, and self-esteem.

The winter holidays are especially good for creating family-building traditions. Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa all in some way celebrate light, warmth, and love, and all of them provide a sense of home and hearth (壁炉边). As new parents, we begin to have our own set of customs around these holidays, and many traditions will be drawn from our past, especially at first. But with years going on, we are sure to develop original ones that suit our own particular lifestyles, children’s personalities, and personal tastes. Granted, modifying family traditions may feel like a break with the past, but they help to consider these changes as a connection with the future as well, which we transmitted to our children with all the best wishes.

  3. The children’s sense of security is that .

  A. they are constantly experiencing many kinds of changes

  B. stepping stones can lead them year to year

  C. the family always goes to midnight mass

  D. they are often informed of good stories

  4. Spending holidays with children can let children know EXCEPT .

  A. about the history of the family

  B. where their family came from

  C. they are living a happy life

  D. they are content with themselves
