  阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

There are plenty of good reasons to buy organic products, but nutrition may not be one of them, suggests a new study, which found no difference in antioxidant (抗氧化剂) levels between organically and conventionally (常规地) grown onions, carrots, and potatoes.

The study only looked at three types of vegetables and just a few select nutrients. But the experiment was part of a bigger project that was so systematic and strictly controlled that the findings likely apply to other crops, too.

“Giving preference to organic products because they contain more bioactive components is doubtful and not supported by scientific evidence,” Knuthsen said. “Still, there are many good reasons for the consumer to select organic food products, including absence of pesticide residues (农药残留) in foods, animal welfare, and environmental protections.”

Argument over whether organic produce is more nutritious than conventional varieties has been around for at least a decade, said Jeffrey Blumberg, director of the Antioxidants Research Laboratory at Tufts University in Boston. “Some studies have suggested that organically grown plants contain higher levels of healthful antioxidants, possibly because some antioxidants act as natural fungicides (杀真菌剂), pesticides and insecticides,” he said. “The idea is that, without help from industrial chemicals, plants on organic farms need to work harder to protect themselves. They end up becoming more nutritious as a result.” But plenty of other studies have shown no such relationship.

“I understand that organic farmers would love to be able to say that theirs are super-fruits and super-vegetables because there are higher amounts of these compounds in them,” Blumberg said. “If you want to buy them because you think they’re safer for the planet to grow things that way, or because you think pesticides are bad for you or your family, or you like that they come from a shorter distance away, that’s great.”

“But if you want to buy them because they’re more nutritious, you’re confused, and we don’t know if that’s true or not.”

  1. The new study proves that .

  A. there are plenty of good reasons to buy organic produce

  B. nutrition is one of the good reasons to buy organic produce

  C. some organically and conventionally grown foods have the same antioxidant levels

  D. organic produce is harmful to our health

  2. Why do people prefer organic products?

  A. Because they think organic products have no bioactive components.

  B. Because scientific evidence supports organic products can make them stronger.

  C. Because it’s proved that organic produce is more nutritious than conventional varieties.

  D. Because they think organic food products have no harmful things.

  3. The fourth paragraph mainly tells us .

  A. it’s unclear whether organic produce is more nutritious than conventional varieties

  B. organically grown plants contain higher levels of healthful antioxidants

  C. plants on organic farms need to work harder to protect themselves

  D. plenty of other studies have shown no such relationship

  4. Which is NOT the reason for you to buy organic products according to Blumberg?

  A. There are higher amounts of these compounds in them.

  B. They’re safer for the planet to grow things that way.

  C. Pesticides are bad for you or your family.

  D. They are more nutritious.

  2016高考训练题。阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

Searching for airfares often seems like a game that passengers are bound to lose. Prices change from day to day, even minute to minute.

Looking through multiple websites for the best deal can be a big challenge. Even when you do book, there’s no guarantee that you are going to get the best price.

“You just don’t know when to make a deal. It’s not like buying anything else I can think of,” said George Hobica, founder of Airfarewatchdog. com.

Harriet Levy paid $179 for a recent round—trip flight on American Airlines between New York and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sitting just one row behind her, Shirley Harrison paid $ 215. A few rows back, Ellis and Dianne Traub paid $ 317 each. There were at least 12 fares on the flight, ranging from $169 to $360. There’s no reason for it, Harrison said.

Fares can change significantly in just a few hours. One Delta flight from New York to Los Angeles jumped from $ 755 to $1,143 from a Friday to Saturday in late April, then fell to $ 718 on Sunday. The flight was one of a dozen the Associated Press followed over three months for a vacation between July 16 and 22. The number one finding: avoid booking tickets on weekends. It’s the most expensive time to buy.

There’s no way to guarantee the best fare. But before booking, travelers should pay attention to this additional advice:

Book on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. That’s when airlines most often offer special sales.

Buy in advance, but not too early.

The best time is four to six weeks before traveling. In general, prices for any given flight are highest eight to ten weeks and two to three weeks in advance.

  Make use of social media.

Airlines are giving more benefits to travelers who interact with them on Twitter and Facebook. But those specials are often gone within hours.

Choose the stable or the lowest? The fares of some so-called discount airlines, such as JetBlue, Air-Tran, Southwest and Frontier, are less changeable than other airlines, so you can feel more confident that the price will stay the same. But the fares aren’t always the lowest.

In all, there’s no way to guarantee the best fare, but researching different airlines’ fares can be the only way to get a good deal.

  1. What can we infer from the first sentence of the text?

  A. Airlines often play games with passengers.

  B. Passengers are unable to search for airfares.

  C. It’s difficult for passengers to get the best price.

  D. Airfares are set in different situations.

  2. By using a lot of figures, the author intends to ________.

  A. discover the rules behind airfares

  B. prove airfares can vary widely

  C. guarantee passengers a low price

  D. show there is standard price for every single airline

  3. If you want to take a flight on Christmas, which time can be the best to book a ticket?

  A. September 15th

  B. October 15th

  C. November 15th

  D. December 15th

  4. Passengers are advised to book flights _________.

  A. at the lowest price by comparing as many airlines

  B. with airlines which are famous for offering discount prices

  C. through two apps on smart phones

  D. on some special websites

  阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

“So what is Quintura?” you may ask. “I like the search engine I currently use, My Favorite Search Engine. Why do I need anything else? My Favorite Search Engine knows everything about every subject I am interested in and I can access all of the information available on the Web with My Favorite Search Engine.”

“Oh, yes!” we answer. “Indeed! We have no doubt that you have chosen the best search engine for your own search purposes! We don’t want you to part with your favorite ─ Yahoo, MSN or Google.”

However, what if you think about searching in a different way. Have you ever raked through the paper card index of a big library? You have to find the necessary letter (or their combination), take the correct drawer, and start sorting through the cards. Ring any bells? After much time and effort, finally you find the long-awaited card!

Of course web search engines take away the laborious task of sifting (筛选) through paper index cards. And if you know the book’s exact author and title, either search is easy ─ on the web or in a library. But what if you know only your general search scope? Neither the author’s name nor the book title. In a library, the only way out is to ask a librarian. But on the web, what do you do? You are on your own.

Until now, Quintura is the very know-all librarian!

Imagine a conversation between you and the search engine you use most often, My Favorite Search Engine (MFSE).

You: I need some books on physics.

MFSE: No problem. We have a lot of good literature.

You: Oh. . . so many of them!

MFSE: You asked for books on physics, here, I’ve found some more.

You: No, I need only one branch of physics.

MFSE: But I have all the branches! Thousands of books. Choose whatever you want.

You: But I need the branch on solid movement: acceleration, friction and so on.

MFSE: Here they are. Books on physics. . .

Now imagine beginning the same conversation with Quintura (Qu).

You: I need some books on physics.

Qu: OK! We have a lot of good literature; what branch of physics do you need?

You: Branch? I’m not sure of its name.

Qu: What is your branch about?

You: Solid movement: acceleration, friction and so on.

Qu: Let’s see. Here is mechanics! Please note this list of books, our visitors mostly ask for these books on mechanics.

  You: Thank you.
