Millions of girls grow up with the hope of becoming a famous singer. Some even win local talent competitions as children, but only a few such early successes and dreams turn into reality. Jessica Andrews is one of the few whose dreams have come true.
Andrews, first taste of success came at the age of 10. She won a talent competition in her home town of Huntingdon, Tennessee, singing I Will Always Love You, originally sung by Whitney Houston. Houston's version of the song appeared on The Bodyguard sound track, which happened to be the first album Andrews ever bought.
Within two years, talk of Andrews had spread to Nashville and caught the attention of producer Byron Gallimore, whose credits include work with Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Jo Dee Messina. With Gallimore signed on to produce, Andrews soon had a recording contract (合同)with Dream Works' Nashville label.
Andrews' professional career was launched with 1999's Heart Shaped World, recorded when she was 14 years old. The album included the country hit I Will Be There For You, which also appeared on The Prince Of Egypt She followed up the release of the album by touring as a support act for such country superstars as Faith Hill and Trisha Yearwood.
With the release of 2001,s Who I Am, Andrews became a star in her own right. The album was certified (证明)gold for sales of 500,000 copies. Andrews returned in April 2003 with Now,an album that she promised would show a new side of the young artist. "This album has a very different feeling for me," she said. "It's a lot more personal and there's a confidence that wasn't quite there on the first two. I feel especially connected to this group of songs."

The brightest object in the evening sky after the sun and the moon isn't a star, but a planet. It's Venus, our closest neighbor and the second planet from the sun.
Venus is so bright that you can see it both at night and in the early morning. This caused some conftision for ancient Egyptian (埃及的)and Greek (希腊的)star observers. Because they saw Venus at two different times, they thought it was two different planets.
What makes Venus so bright? Huge clouds, 20 miles thick, completely surround it and reflect 75% of the light from the sun that strike them.
For a long time, these clouds caused Venus to be a great mystery (谜)to the world's astronomers. If, like other clouds, the ones on Venus were made up of water vapors (水汽),could there not be life hiding beneath them on the planet? Were there “Venusians (金星人)” waiting to communicate with us on Earth?
It was an exciting thought, but on that the Mariner recently landed to rest. The Mariner thoroughly examined Venus and its atmosphere, only to find that the cloud cover was made mostly of deadly carbon dioxide (二氧化碳)gas. The atmospheric pressure was 15 to 22 times greater than on Earth, which further disproved the theory of life on Venus.
And what did the Mariner find under the clouds? A world of great mountains and smooth areas, dry as a bone. The temperature is about 900°F. That's hot.
Although the greatest mystery has been solved, there are still others waiting for us on Venus. Why does Venus rotate (自转)so slowly? What is the inside of Venus like? And most important of all, why is there no water on Venus? If, as it was thought, it was formed about the same time as our planet, it should have water.
These questions and others may some day be answered. Until then, Venus will continue to be the brightest mystery in the sky.

Bad teeth can be painful — and worse. They can even be deadly. Infections (感染)of the gums (牙龈)and the teeth can cause bacteria (细菌)to go into the blood system. Those bacteria can increase the chance of a heart attack and worsen the effects of other diseases. And adults are
not the only ones at risk.
For example, in 2007, doctors in the Washington area said a boy died when a tooth infection spread to his brain. They said it might have been prevented had he received the dental care (牙齿 保健)he needed. He was twelve years old.
Experts at the National Institutes of Health say good dental care starts at birth. Breast milk, they say, is the best food for the healthy development of teeth. Breast milk can help slow the growth of bacteria and acid production in the mouth.
But dentists say a baby's gums and early teeth should be cleaned after each feeding. Use a cloth with a little warm water. Do the same if a baby is fed with a bottle. Experts say if you decide to put your baby to sleep with a bottle, only give the child water.
When baby teeth begin to appear, you can clean them with a wet toothbrush. Dentists say it is important to find soft toothbrushes made especially for babies and to use them very gently.
The use of fluoride (氟化物)to protect teeth is common in many parts of the world. For example, it is often added to drinking water supplies. The fluoride mixes with enamel (法琅质), the hard surface on teeth, to help prevent holes from forming.

For my grandmother's 70th birthday, my family and I visited South Korea. While there, I was attentive to Korean high schools and students.
I was surprised by how different Korea's public high schools are from America's. Korean high
schools can be all-girls, all-boys or co-ed (男女同校的)unlike our standard co-ed high schools. There are three grades: “go 1”(10th), "go 2” (1 lth) and ‘‘go 3” (12th). ‘‘Go,,is the first syllable of the word “go-deung -hakkyo", which, simply translated, is “high school”.
In America, unless you want to go to a private school, you don't have to take an entrance exam. In Korea, however, students must take a test to get in because of the many choices of schools.
Another diffe rence I couldn't help but notice was the students' appearance. With very few exceptions, all wear uniforms. A name tag (标牌)with the student's name, grade and homeroom number must also be worn. Girl's skirts can't be above the upper part of the knee, and it is forbidden to dye (染)your hair or wear accessories (装饰品)except small earrings. There are strict regulations for appearance to achieve neatness, and it seems the only freedom students have is with their choices of hair style, socks and shoes.
The final difference was the setup of the classes. There may be 40 students in a classroom, but the number can be less or even more, depending on the population of the town or city. Although there are many students per classroom, they are very close, which I think is a result of not changing classrooms for different subjects. There are no levels in the subjects and the teachers are the ones who switch classrooms. They just have ten-minute breaks between subjects. In each class, students are ranked by their grades. This causes strict competition, and Korean students do a lot of studying. To help them, all schools have extra study classes after school. One other fact that helped me appreciate living in America is that Koreans have school on Saturdays. Although it's only a half day, I think I speak for most Americans when I say we could never imagine ourselves in school on a Saturday.
Korea's public high schools are clearly different from America's. I had imagined them to be just like our schools, but now I have a clear picture of how different they are.
72. How many main differences are mentioned between Korea's public high school and America's?
A. 3.
B. 4.
C. 5.
D. 6.
73. It seems that the writer
_______ .
A. is familiar with the education system of high schools in Korea
B. is fond of Korean students' appearance
C. prefers the high school life of America to the one of Korea
D. feels it common to have lessons on weekends
74. What does the underlined word "setup" in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Arrangement.
B. Size.
C. Number.
D. Outline.
75. According to the rules, the students of Korea can _______
.
A. go to different high schools without exams
B. wear any clothes except uniforms at school
