Hundreds of people have formed impressions of you through that little device(装置) on your desk"以及第二段中的"Rani, my faceless agent whom I’d never met"可知,此处表示"事实上他们从来没有见过你"。故选D项。accept "接受";notice"注意";hear"听到";meet "遇见"。 come "来,发生";move"移动";run"跑";develop"发展"。 43.B根据上文的"...sometimes from hundreds of miles away"以及下文的"they feel they can know you...That’s how powerful the      is"可知,上下文为转折关系,故选B项。 44.C rather"在一定程度上,颇";also"也";just"仅仅";already"已经"。 45.A根据第一段中的"little device(装置) on your desk"及第二段中的"For years I dealt with my travel agent only by phone"可知,此处指的是电话(telephone)。 故选A项。 而根据第三段中的"What a wonderful lady!" direct "直接的";useful"有用的";easy"容易的";accurate"准确的"。 47.A根据上文的"my faceless agent whom I’d never met"可知,作者从来没有亲自见过她,故选A项。in person "亲自";by myself"我自己,独自";in public"公开地,当众";on purpose"故意地"。 But her cold voice really"和下文的内容可知,此处指的是"让我不悦",故选A项。annoy"使不悦,使生气";interest"使感兴趣";discourage"使泄气";confuse"使困惑"。 promote "促进";train"训练";find"找到";know"知道"。 50.D根据第三段中的"an immediate flight home for a family emergency"以及最后一段中的"Sitting back in the car on the way to the airport..." arrange"安排";postpone"推迟";confirm"证实";book"预订"。 for the first time"第一次";at any time "在任何时候";from time to time"有时";in good time"及时地,迅速地"。故选A项。 expect"期待";see"看见";test"测验,检测";avoid"避免"。 53.B根据上文的"...sympathetically jumped up",空后的"smile...I thought"以及最后一段中的"her warm smile"可知,此处表示"她给予我令人欣慰的(comforting)微笑",故选B项。shy"害羞的";familiar"熟悉的";forced"强迫的,勉强的"。 One morning, I had to an immediate flight home for a family emergency"可知,此处指的是"立刻打印出了票"。 hopefully"充满希望地";disappointedly"失望地";regretfully "遗憾地"。6.D根据下文的"with a big smile on her face waving to wish me a safe trip"可知,此处表示的是"一位友善的(pleasant)女士"。careful"仔细的";serious"认真的,严肃的";nervous"紧张的"。 Why had I thought she was cold?

I put my head in, expecting the worst. But to my surprise, the room wasn’t empty at all. It had furniture, curtains, a TV, and even paintings on the wall. And then on the well-made bed sat Amy, my new ___44___, dressed neatly.

  A. roommate    B. classmate    C. neighbor    D. companion

I went to live there以及下文的I hated the place可知,作者随丈夫搬去了加利福尼亚,故选near,表示"靠近他",其他都与语意不符。 catch up意为"赶上";keep up意为"保持";get up意为"起床",都不符合语意。

I wrote to my parents暗示这里是letter。

You don’t have a personal plan for growth"可知本题选择plan,表示个人成长计划。 .A (be)involved (in)"参加",符合句意。 I must have talked for ten minutes"可知作者滔滔不绝地说了起来,就像是在演讲,因此选择speech。 I will develop and follow a personal growth plan..."

  完形填空的首句往往开宗明义,是文章的主题。细读首句可启示全文。而尾句又往往是对文章主题的总结。所以,它们是了解文章大意的一个窗口,对我们理解全文有着重要的启示作用。因此,要充分利用段首句提供的信息,去挖掘文章的思路,寻找文章的脉络与线索。一般来讲,高考完形填空的首、尾句通常是不挖空的。先跳读这两句,便可判断体裁,猜想它要讲什么。若首句交代了when, where, who, what,即四个W,那么就是记叙文,很可能就是一个故事,为了测试语篇的理解能力,出题者特别注意选材的趣味性,其结尾往往出人意料,耐人寻味;

After years of regular treatment, she became healthy"可知,Cathy小时候身患重病(illness)。 After years of regular treatment"可推知,Cathy最终(finally)康复了。 therefore"因此";otherwise"否则";instead"代替"。 (be) ready to do sth." I told her...but she refused to"和下文的"and insisted she go"可知,此处应用give up,表示作者的女儿拒绝放弃游泳。 attend"参加"ban"禁止"start"开始"。 rich"丰富的"weak"虚弱的"kind"善良的"。 trusted"受信任的"experienced"有经验的"embarrassed"窘迫的"。.A由下文的"often she would be the last swimmer in the race"可推知,作者的女儿的游泳之路不是一帆风顺的,经常会有沮丧(frustration)的时刻。 compete with"和某人竞争"respond to"对……

As they left student life behind"可知, 这是他们在这个便宜但友好的当地酒吧的最后(last)一杯。故选A。 26.C根据空后的"despite their success, they aren’t happy"可知,他们中的许多人承认(admitted)尽管他们成功,但他们不快乐。 7.A根据空后的"of unfriendly coworkers and feel sad for eight-hour workweeks devoted to tasks"可知,complain"抱怨",符合语境。 Some do not respect the companies they work for and talk of feeling tired and 9 "可知,他们不尊重他们的公司,并且他们感觉累和空虚。 32.A根据上文中的"People often... path"和下文中的"the idea of leaving their jobs to work for something...leads them to the same conclusion..." 33.D根据上文中的"leaving their jobs to work for..." pay off"付清(还清)债务"。 故选A。

These are...to consider most"可知,那正是我们许多人忽视的价值,正是我们最需要考虑的价值。所以,此处选involved,"be involved in ..."

  36.D根据第一段末句中的"because people ... than ever before"可知这里描述的是一种世界各国正在面临的问题(problem)。.B根据空格后的原因状语从句"because people are throwing out more rubbish than ever before"可知答案。 hide"隐藏";control"控制";replace"取代";withdraw"提取"。 thanks to"幸亏,由于"。 prevention"预防"; division"分开,分隔"。 donate"捐赠";preserve"保护"。 adapt to"适应";return to"返回";respond to"对…… .B根据前句"我们对新产品的强烈欲望也会引起这个问题",以及后句中的"we will be happier with the latest products"推理可知此处应选B,be addicted to"对上瘾"。 .A 根据空后的"we will be happier with the latest products"可知此处表示"越新越好"。 .D

make room for new ones意为"为新东西腾出空间",那么如何为新东西腾出空间呢? Mountains of rubbish just keep getting bigger"可知此处指的是"这种抛弃型的生活方式造成的后果"。 advantage"优点";purpose"目的";function"功能";consequence"结果,后果"。.C 根据后文中的"more governments are requiring people to recycle materials"和文章最后一句中的"...to reduce the amount of rubbish and take care of our environment"可知,人们回收资源的目的是减少垃圾的数量和保护环境。 53.A 根据下一段内容以及空格后的"this is not enough to solve (解决) our problem"推理可知空格前后应为转折关系,故选择However。 in favour of"支持"。 55.A 根据前句中的"to repair our possessions 54 throwing them away"以及后句中的"Repairing our possessions and changing our spending habits..." 可知选A。
