Xia Meng, a prominent Hong Kong actress and film producer, dies early Thursday morning at 83.

11月3日(周四)凌晨，香港著名女演员兼电影制片人夏梦去世，享年83岁。

Xia, born Yang Meng in 1933 in Shanghai, China, moved with her family to Hong Kong in 1947. In 1949, she was chosen to play the leading role in the English language production of Saint Joan.

夏梦1933年出生于中国上海，1947年随家人迁居香港。1949年，夏梦出演英语话剧《圣女贞德》，并担任主角。

Xia Meng joined The Great Wall Studio in 1951 and was given her first role as the title character in Pingqian Li's Jin hun ji (1951) (A Night-Time Wife), rocketed to stardom in her debut. The comedy was a hit later, stands out as a genuine classic of Hong Kong cinema. Many other hits followed. There was the tragic of Ri cu (1956) (Sunrise), and, at her best, as the virtuous widow in Xin gua (1956) (A Widow's Tears) (both 1956), and perhaps most remarkably, her gender-bending turn as a man masquerading as a woman in the all-female opera comedy Wong lao hu qiang qin (1960) (The Bride Hunter).

1951年，她加入长城影业公司，在李倩萍执导的《禁婚记》(英文名：A Night-Time Wife)中首次出演，这是她的荧幕处女作。该剧播出后获得了极大的成功，成为香港电影永恒的经典。其它影片纷纷效仿。1956夏梦出演悲剧片《日出》(英文名：Sunrise)，代表作《新寡》(1956)(英文名：A Widow's Tears)，最经典,让人印象深刻的是1960年她在全部由女班出演的戏曲电影《王老虎抢亲》(英文名: The Bride Hunter)中饰演男性角色，继而男扮女装抢亲的故事。

注：夏梦曾与越剧电影《红楼梦》的导演岑范有一段恋爱，但最终未能携手走进婚姻殿堂，岑范也终身不娶。

她是金庸的梦中情人，也是《神雕侠侣》小龙女的原型。
