　　At the battle of Ypres in 1914, British colonel Walter Loring made no concessions to the Germans. Mounted on a white horse, he was leading his men on the Menin Road when his foot was smashed by a bullet. The medical officer ordered him to the rear, but he told the man to Go to hell and asked his servant to bring his slippers.
