　　134.This highly polite style is no doubt something that young women have been expected to grow into-atter all, it is a sign not simply of femininity, but of maturity and refine-ment, and its use could be taken to indicate a change in the nature of ones social relations as well.

　　该句是一个递进关系句，由破折号隔开，破折号表示递进关系。破折号之前的分句的主干是This...style is no doubt something...。that young women have been expected togrow into是定语从句，用来修饰先行词something。

　　no doubt的意思是毋庸置疑，常用在句型there is no doubt that。如：

　　There is no doubt that he will win the competition.

　　毫无疑问，他将赢得比赛。

　　破折号后是由and引导的两个小分句：第一个小分句是not simply...but结构，第二个小分句中的to indicate a change...relations是不定式短语，作目的状语。其中，refinement的意思是高尚，文雅。indicate的意思是指明，表明。如：

　　定语从句中，当先行词是everything、nothing、anything等不定代词时，其引导词只能用that而不用whicho但something除外，something之后用that或which均可。如：

　　作状语是动词不定式的主要功能之一。动词不定式可在句中作目的状语、结果状语和原因状语等。如：

　　1) He got nearer to see clearly.

　　为了能看清楚，他靠得更近了些。(作目的状语)

　　2) The girl was so kind as to help the old man offthe bus.

　　这个女孩心地很善良，她帮助那位老人下了公共汽车。(作结果状语)
