　　Every year students in many countries learn English. Some of these students are children. Others are young people. Some learn at school, others teach themselves. Why do all these people want to learn English? It is hard to answer that question.

　　Many boys and girls learn English at school because it is one of their subjects. Many people learn English because it is useful in their work. Some young people learn English for their higher studies because some of their books are in English at college（学院）or university（大学）. Other people learn English because they want to read newspapers and magazines（杂志）in English.
