　　Betty: Tell me about the concert, Sally?

　　Sally: Well, we play some music all together. And then one of us plays a solo of some Irish dance music at the end of the Starsearch concert.

　　Lingling: A solo? You mean alone in front of everyone? Rather you than me!

　　Sally: Well, the orchestra will play in the background. Our music teacher will choose the best player during our final practice. And if I play well, Ill play the solo during the Starsearch concert.

　　Betty: And if Kylie beats you, shell play the solo and become the star on Starsearch!

　　Sally: Yes, but actually, I want Kylie to win.

　　Lingling: Why?

　　Sally: Her parents have warned her about her schoolwork. If she spends too much time with the orchestra, theyll punish her and send her to a different school.

　　Betty: Thats a shame!

　　Sally: And if she goes to a different school, I wont see my best friend.

　　Lingling: So what can you do?

　　Sally: If our teacher chooses Kylie, shell play the dance music.

　　And if she becomes a star, her parents will be problem of her, and they wont send her away.

　　Lingling: I see the problem!

　　Sally: But if I refuse to play, our teacher wont choose me. Shell choose Kylie.

　　Betty: But thats such a pity! You play so well.

　　Sally: Ill have another chance one day. And Ill keep my best friend.

　　Unit 2

　　Dear Diana,

　　Last week, my friend Da Wei brought a new computer game and asked to play it on my fathers computer. But my father has warned to me not to use his computer for playing games because he uses it for his job. I can only use it for my homework. He things that if I play games on it, itll go wrong.

　　 Well, my dad was out, so we decided to try Da Weis game. We copied it onto the computer and when we finished, we took it off the computer. We made quite sure my father didnt notice anything.

　　 But when my dad used the computer last night, he was really angry. the computer wasnt working because it had a virus!

　　 But I didnt tell him about the computer game.

　　 Now I feel terrible. Its going to be expensive to mend it. Should I tell him about the computer game? Should I offer to pay?

　　Oh dear! Youve made two mistakes. First, you used your dads computer when he told you not to. Second, you didnt tell him about the game. Yes, you must tell him immediately. If you tell him the truth, hell be angry with you, but at least youll prove how honest you are.

　　 Then I think you should offer to pay. But you shouldnt use your pocket money-after all, your parents gave you that money. If you offer to do some job around the home, or maybe help him with his work, hell realize that youre truly sorry.
