题目:Does working with other people bring better results than working as an individual?
Changes do not occur until people discover that they share a common concern and work together towards that shared goal. Great revolutions and breakthroughs are finished by the cooperative efforts of a group of people. Although to complete a task independently will guarantee a working environment without interruption, to work with other people turns out to be more productive.
When it comes to social work through which group life is affected by worker who consciously directs the interacting process towards the accomplishment of goals, which are conceived in a democratic frame, the support of other people, though trivial at face value, is part-and-parcel for a successful outcome. Take the recipient of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzais story as an example. Born into a disadvantaged village with Taliban control, Malala was much more mature than girls at her age in other countries. Knowing that the Talibans restriction for girls education is detrimental to the future of these girls, as well as the future of her country-Pakistan, Malala decided to change the situation and wrote a blog to BBC, to call for an improvement in education for girls when she was only 11 years old. Understanding the pressure and depression girls in Pakistan are facing, BBC stared to report this, giving Malala interviews in print and on television. With the help of BBC, Malala soon rose in prominence and people from all over the world knew about the issue in her area. Besides, after Malala was attacked by the Taliban, a built-in support network is created: a UN petition in Yousafzais name was created, using the slogan I am Malala and demanding that all children worldwide be in school by the end of 2015. The cooperative work from all aspects in the society brought nothing but the ratification of the first Education Bill in Pakistan, girls rights to be educated finally guaranteed by law. It is obvious that if Malala was just working on her own, as an eleven-year -old pupil, she would nerve be able to gain such success. The moral and professional support from other people accelerated the process of social campaign.
When it comes to personal success, a situation seems simper; to work with other people is still more productive than to work alone. Take John Kennedy Toole as an example. With an intention to be a prestigious writer, Toole has published his first book, the Neon Bible, which brought Toole into public attention. Not satisfied with such fame, Toole soon wrote another book, A Confederacy of Dunces, and sent it to a very influential editor, Robert. Unfortunately, Robert admitted Tooles talents but not his masterpiece. After several revisions, the book was still rejected. Toole then reached another editor, but what he received was still negative feedback. All these experience of working alone gave Toole nothing but depression. Feel like living on an island of hopeless and loneliness in the midst of a vast ocean of chances and opportunities, Toole committed suicide at the age of 31. But this was not the end, a key turning point in Toole career was when his mother joined him in the realization of his dream. After 10 years continuous efforts by Tooles mother, the Confederacy of Dunces finally became a hit and was awarded the Pulitzer Price for Fiction. By working alone, Toole harvested a feeling of isolation and finds himself languished in the corners of hopeless. But his mothers join came as a great beacon light of hope to Tooles career. Toole is undoubtedly talented, but we could see the sad story that to work alone can be depressing, without his mothers support, the public would never have the change to appreciate Tooles talents in writing.
Besides social campaign and personal success, cooperation in business can maximize productivity and in literature it heats up communication. Everyones success cannot be separated from the help and support of other people; even the help is not a professional one. Thus to work with other people is definitely more effective than to work as an individual.
