in a newspaper : 强调报纸里面的内容

on the newspaper : 与报纸内容无关, 如你自己在报纸上记了什么东西时用 “on”

the number of / a number of : 后面都加可数名词的复数

a number of＝lots of做复数看待(从前往后翻, 强调后面的东西), a number of students 许多学生
