1. He consigned the task to the newcomer.
他把这项任务交给了新来的人。
newcomer指的是新到一个地方、或是刚刚开始从事某项活动的人，我们可以直接理解为新人，同时它也可以表示刚到一个国家的移民。
2. I am a mere beginner.
我只不过是一个初学者。
beginner也是新人，不一样的是它更侧重于那些还无法熟练运用某项知识和技能的初学者。
3. Hes a fresher.
他是个大一新生。
我们都知道freshman，在美语里表示上大一的新生，英式英语里则常用fresher。 如果你想表示新兵或新会员则可以用new recruit。
4. He is a greenhorn in this field.
他在这个领域还是个新手。
greenhorn乍一看，你会以为是绿色的角，最早这个词是指长着嫩角的小牛，后来比喻生手、没有经验的人。
5. This guy turned out to be a real tenderfoot.
这个家伙原来什么经验也没有。
如果说一个人双脚无力，那么他一定锻炼得少，没什么吃苦的经历。 这里也就是指还没有适应环境的新手了。
6. I was the new kid on the block, having just been hired the week before.
我还是个新人，上周刚刚入职。
new kid on the block是个俚语，指的就是初来乍到的年轻人、刚刚加入的新人。
7. You are still wet behind the ears.
你还嫩了点儿。
小动物刚出生时，浑身上下都湿漉漉的。虽然身上马上会变干，但耳朵背后却还是湿的。wet behind the ears这个词组，就是表示乳臭未干、初出茅庐的意思。
