　　　　在英语中， still， quiet ， silent， calm 都可以表示静的意思，但它们各自的侧重点有所不同。现分析如下：

　　　　1 . still 指静止的，寂静的，侧重于完全不动或完全无声响，带有感情色彩。 still 可以用来说人不动或人不好动。例如：

　　　　All sounds are still. 万籁俱寂。

　　　　The Swede stood quite still， except that his lips moved slightly. 那个瑞典人纹丝不动地站着，只有嘴唇在微微动着。

　　　　Keep/Stay still while I take photos of you. 我为你拍照时，请勿动。

　　　　2 . quiet 侧重指由于无骚扰而产生的安静，无动静，无声响，或心里没有烦恼、焦虑。例如：

　　　　They lived a quiet life in the countryside. 他们在乡村过着宁静的生活。

　　　　3 . silent 指寂静的、无声的或声音极小；也指人沉默不语，不发出响声。例如：

　　　　The children went out， and the room was silent. 孩子们都出去了，房子变得寂静无声。

　　　　4 . calm 指天气、海洋的风平浪静，还可指人的心情平静、态度安详。例如：

　　　　The sea was very calm. 海面很平静。

　　　　The doctor did what he could to make the girl calm. 医生尽力让那女孩平静下来。

　　　　比较： Keep still. （=Don't move.）

　　　　Keep calm. （=Don't be excited.）

　　　　Keep quiet. （=Keep silent.）
