书面表达是检验学生语言实际运用能力的直接有效的方式之一，也是大部分句式较弱学生所头痛的一项考题。它实际考测学生的造句、翻译及语言的逻辑运用能力。所以首先要强调单词造句，关键在于养成良好的单词记忆习惯性。例如单词try(v.尝试，努力/n.尝试)，首先记忆try doing something试着做某事;try to do something尽力做某事;have a try尝试一下，然后根据这些固定结构各造几个句子加以运用，最后是翻译相应的句子。例如：昨天老师要求我们尽力完成这项家庭作业。要求知道词汇用法①ask somebody to do something;②try to do something，所以译文是：Our teacher asked us to try to finish the homework yesterday.通过这种方式，能在很大程度上帮助学生克服对写作的畏惧感，然后通过鼓励，逐渐帮其树立信心。
要提高写作能力还需要加大阅读和练笔。最好找一些有范文的作文题目，先自己认真写一篇，然后与范文对比，找出不足，从而加以改进。如果有必要可全篇背诵。
有了一定量的积累，那么就得注意写作内容的条理化和合理性。这要求学生在写作前得有个合理全面的构思，在写作中多用自己最熟悉的句型结构和词语，力求文理通顺，语言准确，要恰当地使用时态和语态，对不确定的词语可以回避，找同义词、近义词代替或改变句式，变换说法。
