IELTS写作往往是考试中考生最头痛的部分，因为很多时候都发现自己有过多的东西要说，有过多的内容要放进去，或者因此而彻底忽视了时间的掌控，导致超时，草草交卷了事。其实写作中最重要的就是要处理好内容和时间的辩证关系，否则考生纵有满腹诗书也难以发挥。
最忌讳写模式化文章
雅思和一样，都属于生活类的考试，和/GMAT等学术性的考试有本质的不同。
IELTS雅思考试的理念和出题哲学和许多国内考试差异巨大，例如考试中考的单词，在雅思里就未必会考;四六级提倡的主题和思维模式，雅思就未必接受。具体来说，雅思的主题离不开生活，学术类偏重于校园生活的思维，移民类则更多考查日常生活和平常人的共同话题。但学术类和普通培训类的大作文，出题特质有时颇为类似。
学员们写作时的通病，就是思维容易过分发散。雅思的大作文考查的是议论能力，所以在这文章里你要说清楚自己的看法和观点，最忌讳的就是写出四六级考试中灌输的古板而模式化的文章。最好每个段落的开头都有些新的句型，例如，不要老是说first,second，third，而是学会用些新的句子，如我常用的whenIhavethistopic,whatstrikesmeatonceisitssocialextent,而用来取代second的可以说closelynexttomypreviousthought，这些都足以取代传统教学中灌输的机械表达。
遣词造句的包装只是比较表面化的东西。很多人考试,文笔暂且不谈,即使内容上也经常有不符合IELTS雅思或者西方思维的地方。例如,老年人是否应该被强迫不能参加任何劳动?大学各个科目是否应该接受同等数量的男?这两个问题的共性就在于我们首先要谈到一个概念,这个概念也是西方国家经常提到而在中国传统教育里甚少提倡的权利，我们就会发现，其实考雅思不但是语言的问题，还有文化因素的内涵。内容上要做到符合考官的要求，就要多学习，多阅读，提高自己的思想境界，下笔写出来的文字自然有一定的提高。
