虽然计算机被越来越多的应用在教育中，但在多数领域仅仅起到辅助作用play an auxiliary role，比如对计算机软件software、硬件hardware专业的学生而言，没有计算机，就无法学习;又如服装fashion、动画animation和建筑设计architecture design中越来越依赖计算机设计软件;即使是对一些看起来和计算机无关的学科，如数学、物理、化学、统计statistics和数学模拟mathematical simulation也离不开计算机;文科学生art students也需要通过计算机获取信息，比如考古archaeology专业的同学通过计算机观看文物relics的图片或立体three-dimensional模拟。
而老师在几乎所有领域都起到主导作用play a leading role，比如在设计课程design courses中，需要老师讲解设计理念;计算机相关专业的学习，从编程programming到硬件设计，知识传递都需要老师来完成;其它理科专业，诸如数理化，以及文科专业，政治、哲学、经济学等，都是老师传递了知识、学习方法和研究方向。
计算机在很多领域都有所应用，但只起辅助作用而已，关键的知识和方法传递还要依靠rely on老师。
