安全措施增加的最直接好处，就是减少犯罪。有犯罪企图的人看到所有公共场合都有监控，因为恐惧就会减少犯罪的几率。增加配枪警察的巡逻，可以抑制很多犯罪的发生，并能在案发时最快赶到现场。增加紧急呼叫的电话，遇到犯罪的时候，可以第一时间报案。毕竟，阻止伤害市民生命财产的犯罪发生比什么都重要。
诚然，这些设施也会带来一些不便。比如新增设紧急电话会增加政府开支，而且监控设施的维护也是一笔不小的开销，警察增加工作时间也要加班费，这都会消耗大量纳税人的钱。另外，公共场合的监控设施有时还会妨碍到个人隐私。
不过，比起减少的犯罪率，所有的不便都是可以容忍的。
