英式英语是国际标准的英语，但是在雅思考试中，考生主要听到的口音不仅仅有英式英语。
美音会把短元音与长元音不分，譬如，美国人可能分不清在说ant与aunt，因为他们在发这两个单词读音是一样的。
澳大利亚人则会把「ei」发成「ai」，所以当你听到澳大利亚在说 where are you going today?的时候会感到困惑，会误认为他在说where are you going to die?
在雅思听力中也会有其他的口音，譬如日本口音，印度口音或者韩国口音，这样做的目的主要是为还原场景的真实性。
