现在正是一年中最热的时候，在英语中，“三伏天”有一个特殊的表达方式 —— dog days of summer。说到狗，大概大家都对夏天里吐着舌头乘凉的狗狗印象很深吧！那么，这个习语又和狗有什么关系呢？ 在古罗马，研究星象和天文的科学家发现，在一年当中最炎热的几个星期里，天狼星与太阳总是同升同落，时间大概是从七月份一直到八月中旬。人们认为，这是天狼星所释放的热量增加了太阳原本释放出的热量，因此这段最热的时间就被称为是“dog days”。
例如：Dog days are the hottest days in summer. (三伏天是夏季最热的时候)
