口语：保持中立
小两口吵架是家常便饭，但你要是去劝架，可得注意了！劝架也要有技巧，最好是不偏不倚，保持中立。 英语中“保持中立”有个形象的短语，叫做“on the fence”。这个短语源自19世纪。从字面来看：如果你坐“在围墙上”，那绝对是既不偏向围墙左边又不偏向围墙右边，立场完全中立，谁都不得罪。
Are you for or against the new policy, or are you on the fence?
对于新政策，你是支持、反对还是保持中立？ 此外，on the fence 还有一个引申义，意思是“未决定”。 -Has he decided whether he will take the job yet? -No, he's still on the fence.
-他决定做这份工作了吗？-没有，还没决定。
