俗语: 天书,不知所云
朋友从国外回来,瘦了一圈。原因?据说是迷上了一样花式跳绳“double Dutch”。看来,这“double Dutch”的双重意义非同一般—— 不仅仅证明是燃烧卡路里的绝佳途径,更能让我们的口语地道非常。在俗语中,“double Dutch”指“某类言语或文字形同一团迷雾”。 “Double Dutch”不是荷兰人的发明,最初源于美国。该运动要求,跳绳者须跳过由摇绳者交错摇动、呈反方向弧线的两根绳子。很明显,对不亲自尝试的门外汉而言,这种高难度的花式跳绳实在“花”,有点让人摸不着头脑。 从另一方面讲,源于17世纪的“Anglo-Dutch Wars”(英荷战争),英语中,很多怪异的事物都被称之为“Dutch”。由此,“double Dutch”由最初的“花式跳绳”延伸至日常生活中的“不知所云”。 看个例句:This article is so full of jargon.
