该音是个前元音，是字母i或y在重读闭音中的读音。它是个短元音，故发此音要短促而轻快。
发音要领的是：舌尖抵下齿，舌前部抬高，舌两侧抵上齿两侧，口形偏平。
发音秘诀：
1.发音时，口形扁平，嘴唇稍松开。
2.上齿和下齿之间距离，约一个小指尖。
3.舌尖抵下齿，舌硬腭抬起，但舌位稍低，稍后，舌部及下颚肌肉稍松弛。
4.发好这个音的秘诀是：一定要收小腹。
5.常发这个短元音的有：字母i、e、u;字母组合ui.
6.字母y在结尾时英音中发此音。
7.字母组合：ee在单词been中时，美语中发音为此音，这跟英音中是不一样的。
8.英音中很多单词中发此音的在美语中变成/ə/,要注意辨别，以练就一口纯正美语。
