常见的英语习语

　　在英语学习中，有一些我们常常使用，但却在课本上没有出现过的英语习语，下面为同学们整理下常见的英语习语：

　　1. The criminal bit the dust.

　　“Bite the dust的字面意思是咬住地面上的泥土，这个习语源于美国，现在人们用它来表示“击毙，献身等意思。句子中的"bit"是"bite"的过去分词。

　　2. I want a baker’s dozen.

　　“Baker's dozen是数字“13的意思而不是面包师那里的一打东西。

　　3. That show brought down the house.

　　“Bring down the house"在这里是形容演出异常精彩，受到了极大的欢迎的意思。

　　4. Today I got the axe.

　　"Get the axe"是指“被解雇了而不是“掌权或者得到斧子，力量。

　　5. Are you going to hit the books tonight?

　　"Hit the books"意思是“看书，学习。

　　6. She gave me the cold shoulder.

　　"Cold shoulder"是一种不太礼貌的肢体语言，意思是“冷淡，轻视。

　　7. The man came clean.

　　"Come clean"是"坦白承认"的意思，一般都用在人做错了事坦白承认的时候，不能将它理解为“干干净净。

　　8. My sister flew the coop.

　　"Fly the coop"意思是“越狱。

　　9. Stop beating around the bush.

　　“Beat around the bush意思是说话绕圈子，拐弯抹角。

　　“Better half是指配偶。
