BERLIN, Oct. 14 -- Bremen suffered their second defeat in a row as shorthanded Dortmund clinically utilized their scoring chances to crave out a 2-0 victory in an intense match on Friday.
With the win, Dortmund moved onto the second position of German Bundesliga standings after nine rounds of play.
Bremen started dominant in front of home crowd at Weser stadium but Dortmund midfielder Ivan Perisic opened the scoring with a hammering left footer from 16 meters three minutes before break to stun the host.
Two minutes into second half Dortmund midfielder Perisic shocked his side when he booked his second yellow card to decimate his team.
Bremen failed to utilize the chance against shorthanded Dortmund that sealed the win at the 72nd minute as defender Partick Owomoyela clinically exploited a rebound from very close range.
The defending German champion staged a well-positioned defence to move from the 6th to 2nd position with 16 points whereas Bremen suffered their second consecutive loss to slip from the 2nd to 4th with 16 points but with a weaker goal difference.
"It was an intense match. We swallowed the red card and defended very well. In the end we deserved to win the match," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said.
Later on Saturday, Bundesliga leaders and German record champions Bayern Munich host Berlin, Mainz encounter Augsburg, Stuttgart face Hoffenheim, Wolfsburg meet Nuremberg, Monchengladbach host Leverkusen and Schalke face Kaiserslautern.
