MADRID, Sept. 17 -- French doubles pairing of Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and Michael Llodra assured that the Davis Cup quarter-final between Spain and France will go into a third and final day.
Tsonga and Llorda stormed to a 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 win over the Spanish duo of Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez to make the score 2-1 to Spain after three matches, leaving the outcome of the tie to be decided in the final two singles matches on Sunday.
Spain had taken a 2-0 lead on Friday as Rafael Nadal and Devid Ferrer won their respective singles matches.
Nadal had few problems against the world number 15 Richard Gasquet, racing to a straight sets win of 6-3, 6-0, 6-1. Ferrer then won his match 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 against Giles Simon.
Sunday' s singles matches should see Ferrer take on Gasquet and Nadal face Simon in the best of five tie.
The Spanish are looking to avenge the 5-0 defeat they suffered to the French in 2010.
