RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 11 -- Coritiba stunned Botafogo 5-0 on Sunday as the latter continued to struggle as a visiting team, while Flamengo kept its winless streak to seven games in this year's Brazilian Championship.
On the road in the 23rd round, Botafogo lost five out of nine games as visiting team while Coritiba celebrated another home win, totaling seven out of 12 games at the Couto Pereira stadium.
Coritiba's first goal came in the 43rd minute when Tcheco drove a corner kick to a wide-open Emerson who headed the ball past keeper Jefferson and into the Botafogo goal.
Coritba kept up its offensive pressure and added to its lead in the 55th minute when Marcos Aurelio converted a penalty kick.
Bill scored his team's third goal in the 64th minute, followed by Rafinha in the 80th minute and Everton Costa in the 88th minute.
The result leaves Botafogo in fourth place with 40 points. Coritiba's impressive win improves the team to ninth place with 31 points.
Despite its home advantage against Atletico-PR, Flamengo stumbled to a 2-1 loss, marking its seventh straight game without a win and places head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo's job in question.
Atletico-PR opened up a two-goal lead before Flamengo was able to respond. Heracles scored the game's opening goal in the 39th minute and Guerron chipped the ball over keeper Felipe's head and into the goal in the 1st minute of the second half.
Under pressure from the home crowd, Flamengo's only goal came in the 82nd minute when Diego Mauricio redirected a Nebueba corner kick, finding Welinton to slam the ball into the Atletico-PR goal.
Flamengo continues its fall from the top of the board, dropping into sixth place with 36 points, and Atletico-PR improves to 18th place with 22 points.
In other games, Fluminense defeated leader Corinthians 1-0 for its fourth straight victory in its ascension up the board in an effort to successful defend its 2010 title.
The game's only goal came in the 22nd minute when Fred fired a dangerous free kick that deflected off Corinthians' Willian and Ralf, redirected into the right side of the goal.
Despite the loss, Corinthians remains in the first place with 43 points while Fluminense improves to fifth place with 37 points.
At home against Internacional, Palmeiras lost 3-0 as fans booed the coaching staff and players throughout the match.
Leandro Damiao was the star of the match, scoring all Internacional's goals with the first in the 24th minute. He guaranteed his team's victory by adding two more goals in the 82nd minute and the 90+2 minute.
The three goals improve his tournament total to 13 goals, trailing the league's leading scorer Santos' striker Borges with 16 goals.
Internacional improves to seventh place with 35 points. Palmeiras drops to eighth place with 34 points.
In front of its home crowd, Atletico-MG cruised to a 2-0 victory over Bahia, propelling itself out of the league's worst-four teams and placing Bahia into the relegation zone.
Gremio beat a visiting Sao Paulo 1-0 for its third consecutive victory with the only goal coming in the 64th minute when a wide-open Julio Cesar rolled the ball to a cutting Douglas who slammed it into upper right corner of the net.
Sao Paulo drops to third place with 41 points, one behind second place Vasco da Gama.
Host Ceara allowed Atletico-GO to score a last minute goal for a 1-1 draw. After tallying its fourth straight game without a win, Ceara's head coach Vagner Mancini's job is in jeopardy.
After Ceara scored the game's first goal in the 37th minute, Atletico-GO capitalized on a defensive breakdown from Ceara to level in the 87th minute.
The result keeps both teams in their respective standing. Ceara remains in 15th place and Atletico-GO in 11th place.
Host Figueirense held Vasco da Gama to a 1-1 draw to stop the latter from taking the lead of the league as Corinthians lost 1-0 to Fluminense.
Figueirense took an early lead in the 4th minute, and Vasco da Gama responded quickly to tie the match in 16th minute.
