RIO DE JANEIRO, July 31 -- At home against a complete Santos soccer team, Atletico-PR pulled off an amazing upset victory, winning 3-2 on Sunday.
The victory was Atletico-PR's second win of the tournament and helped to pull the team out of last place of the competition.
Atletico-PR captured a two goal lead in the first 10 minutes. Off a great individual play in the fourth minute, Cleber Santanta dribbled past four Santos defenders and angled the ball past keeper Rafael. Manoel added to his team's lead in the ninth minute, heading in a corner kick.
Santos responded by scoring its first goal of the game in the 12th minute. Taking advantage of a loose ball, Neymar created some space and quickly drove the ball into the upper right corner of the Atletico-PR goal. Santos tied the match in the 61st minute when Borges quickly spun around and blew the ball past keeper Renan Rocha.
However, Atletico-PR was able to score in stoppage time and walk away with an important victory. In the 90+1 minute, Marcinho snuck behind the defense and headed the ball into the right side of the Santos goal.
The win improves Atletico-PR to 19th place with eight points. In the 14th round of play Atletico-PR will travel to face Atletico-GO on August 4.
Santos continues to struggle in the tournament and remains in a dangerous 17th place with 11 points. In the next round of play the team will travel to play Vasco da Gama on August 3.
