RIO DE JANEIRO, July 16 -- Avai grabbed the first win in the Brazilian Championship after ten rounds as they beat Atletico-GO 1-0 at home on Saturday.
The game's only goal came in the first half by veteran striker William. Atletico-GO's goal keeper Marcio had the chance to equalize the game late in the first half, but failed to convert a penalty kick.
Thanks to the victory Avai ranked 18th on the standing with 7 points, while Atletico-GO remained in 17th place with 8 points.
Avai will host Internacional on July 21 in the next round and Atletico-GO will travel to play Sao Paulo on July 23.
