KAMPALA, July 15 -- Uganda faces star-studded Namibia in the International Cricket Council Africa Division One Twenty20 final here later on Friday.
After Namibia's impressive show in the round robin stage of the championship, it has vowed to crush hosts Uganda at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in the capital Kampala.
Besides making it to the Global Twenty20 World Cup qualifiers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates next year, each of the teams badly wants to get hold of that trophy come the final.
"We have beaten Uganda twice in the championship and are confident of doing it again in the final," Namibia's batsman Van der Westhuizen told Xinhua in an interview late on Thursday.
Namibia beat Uganda twice in the round robin, but the hosts made it a 19- run loss in the second loss, thus setting ground for an explosive final.
Uganda's captain Davis Arinaitwe said the match will not be a walk over as their opponents think.
"Remember we are at home and we lost twice to them. But this will be a different story because it's a final. We are going to give our all," he said.
Benjamin Musoke, another senior player of the Ugandan team said the match will be a do-or-die because they want this win so badly in front of their hopes.
"We are aware Namibia is a good, but we are going to play an organized game so that we win this final," said the 34-year old Musoke.
Uganda warmed up on Thursday ahead of the final with a comfortable win over Kenya in the last round robin event.
Uganda beat Kenya by 8 wickets after Kenya batted first and put on 74/9, while Uganda chased and scored 78/2 with a massive 33 balls remaining.
In the second game Nigeria beat fellow West Africans Ghana by 6 wickets after Ghana put on 127/9 and Nigeria chased to score 129/4.
The loss meant that Ghana will not take part in the third place play-off final where Nigeria will now face off with Kenya for the third seed's rank in Africa. After the play off hosts Uganda and Namibia will take to the field.
