MADRID, June 18 -- Granada Football Club returned to the Spanish Primera Liga after 35 years this Saturday after their triumph in the final of the play-off to seal promotion from the Spanish second division.
Granada drew 1-1 in Elche in the second leg of the play-off between the two sides and are promoted to the Primera Liga by virtue of the away goals rule following a 0-0 draw in the first leg between the two sides last Wednesday.
Odion Igalho's first half goal was enough to take Granada back to the Primera Liga for the first time since 1976 and although Jordi Xumetra leveled the scores with nine minutes remaining, the visitors held firm to assure their place back in the top flight.
Granada join Betis and Rayo Vallecano in winning promotion. Betis and Rayo were promoted after finishing first and second in the second division, while Granada join them after beating Celta in the play-off semifinal and now Elche.
