GENEVA, June 16 -- World football's governing body FIFA said on Thursday that president Joseph Blatter will be present at the opening match of the Women's World Cup on June 26 in Berlin.
Germany will take on Canada in the opening match. German media had earlier reported that Blatter had demanded to be seated near the half-way line during the match, but FIFA issued a statement saying that Blatter had made no such demands.
Blatter was re-elected as the FIFA president for a fourth term at the beginning of the month even though he has come under a barrage of criticism.
