KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 -- The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced Friday that the remaining 2022 FIFA World Cup Round 2 Asian qualifying matches would be played in October and November after having been postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
"Matchdays 7 and 8 are now scheduled to take place on October 8 and 13, 2020 respectively while Matchdays 9 and 10 are due to kick off on November 12 and 17, 2020," said the AFC of the ties, which were originally scheduled to take place in March and June 2020.
The AFC added that it would continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all teams, officials, fans and stakeholders, and will advise if and when match schedules change again due to the ever-evolving impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
