RIO DE JANEIRO, June 6 -- Atletico Mineiro will not act irrationally in their pursuit of Shandong Luneng striker Roger Guedes, the Brazilian club's vice president said on Saturday.
Atletico have not given up hope of reaching a deal with the Chinese Super League side after their failed bid to sign the 23-year-old in January.
"Roger Guedes has called us several times. He's eager to come. But we don't want to do anything crazy," Lasaro Candido told the Fala Galo news site.
Guedes had an impressive loan spell at Atletico in 2018, with nine goals in 12 Brazilian Serie A matches. He scored 13 times in 26 appearances last year for Shandong Luneng, with whom he is contracted until July 2022.
Guedes is currently in Brazil and unable to return to China because of a decree temporarily suspending the entry of foreign nationals because of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to reports, Shandong Luneng are open to the possibility of loaning out the forward for the rest of the year and could even contribute to his wages.
Brazil's major football competitions have been suspended since mid-March and there has been no date set for their return.
