The traditional festivals in China are various in forms and rich in contents, which are an integral part of the long history and culture of the Chinese nation.
The origin and development of festivals is a process of gradually forming, imperceptibly improving and gradually infiltrating into social life. Like the development of society, it is the product of the development of human society to a certain stage. Most of the festivals in ancient China were related to astronomy, calendar, mathematics and the solar terms that were later divided. This can be traced back to Xia Xiaozheng and Shangshu in the literature at least. During the Warring States period, the 24 solar terms that were divided in a year were basically complete. Later traditional festivals were all closely related to these solar terms.
The solar terms provide the preconditions for the production of festivals. Most of the festivals have already appeared in the pre-Qin period, but the richness and popularity of the customs still need a long development process. The earliest customs and activities are related to primitive worship and superstitious Taboos; myths and legends add a bit of romance to the festival; there is also the impact and influence of religion on the festival; some historical figures are given eternal commemorations to infiltrate the festival, all of which are integrated into the festival content, making the Chinese Festival have a deep sense of history.
By the Han Dynasty, the main traditional festivals in China had been finalized. It is often said that these festivals originated in the Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty was the first period of great development after the reunification of China, with stable political economy and great development of science and culture, which provided good social conditions for the final formation of the festival.
In the Tang Dynasty, the festival has been liberated from the atmosphere of primitive worship and mysterious taboos, and turned into a type of entertainment etiquette, becoming a real holiday. Since then, the festival has become joyful, colorful, many sports, fun activities, and soon become a fashion popular, these customs have continued to develop, enduring.
It is worth mentioning that in the long history, scholars, poets and poets of all ages have written many famous poems for each festival. These poems are well-known and widely praised, which make the traditional festivals of our country permeate with profound cultural background, wonderful and romantic, and show great elegance and common appreciation.
China's festivals have a strong cohesion and a wide range of inclusiveness. When it comes to festivals, the whole country celebrates together, which goes hand in hand with our nation's long history and is a precious spiritual and cultural heritage.
